CRV owners, squeel when turning??
My parents have a CRV and when you turn the steering wheel to a point where it's almost all the way left or right, it lets out a squeel. WTF could this be? Common problem at all?
Is this while moving or just sitting still??
Moving: Sounds like the rear differential. The rear diff on these are a clutch type and tend to make noise when the fluid needs to be replaced. Replace the fluid and the noise should go away. And make sure to use the correct fluid, double pump IIRC.

i'm having the same problem. my moms 2000 cr-v se. is doing the same noise.
kinda annoying. also, it has this HUMMING noise when just cruising. i forget exactly what it sounds like.... but it seems like its kinda serious.

It happens when it's moving when I've noticed it. I've yet to try it while it's stopped, I'll probably get a chance to take a look at it this week or weekend. Why would it be the rear diff making the noise while turning? I haven't looked too deeply into it, but I think it's coming from the front somewhere. Also, what is double pump IIRC?
Azndng-Yea it's annoying, they took it to a shop last week for that and a service and they couldn't find anything. Very reputable and well trusted shop too.
Thanks for the help! When I get the chance to look at it, I'll be sure to post any findings or anything.

Mine made noise when I was turning left or right in tight situations, ex. parking lots, when the steering wheel was near or at full lock. The rear diff will make noise as this is when the difference in the outside and inside wheel speed is at a maximum putting the most stress on the rear differential. In a tight turn, the outside wheel has to travel much farther than the inside.
Its fairly cheap to replace the fluid and if you have not done it for a while, I'd recommend it.

Double pump is the type of fluid. Honda/acura will carry it. (IIRC= If I Recall Correctly)

check with dealer first as in the uk there is a bullitin about this and the fluid that was put in at the factory was not of the right quility so it had to be flushed out with the right stuff and if this did not work then all the clutches in the diff had to be replaced.
all of this is done under warranty.
still check if out of warranty as it has been extended for this problem.

Yea, that's exaclty what it does. The one thing my dad mentions is that it doesn't do it in the rain or when it's wet out??? I dont know how much truth there is to that, but from this post and the one about the warrenty, it seems to be pointing to the fluid.

The noise is less or absent in the rain as there is less tire friction so the diff does not have to work as hard.
Fluid is cheap to change, I'd give it a try before doing anything else.

I would still check about the warranty first.
if you can get it done under warranty it will include the fluid and it will be flushed out twice.

when you turn left or right at almost full clock it squeaks and vibrates the car at any speed...change the rear diff fluid 2 it will go away if not you ruiend the rear dif clutch...every 97-01 CRV has this problem when owners do not have it changed every 30k mile...how do i know this...im a Honda Tech see it all day...also the fluid you need is Honda Dual Pump fluid...do not think of using anything else..it also takes 1 1/2 qt...
if you get to much vibration or the car seems to want to stall out or feel a lost of power have your Valves adjusted..another problem with the CRV

how many mile does it have...if under 30k and lees than 3 years old maybe if you fight hard for it...but me as a tech i will say no as that is regular maitance by the owner...every 30k should be done or 2 years
i also work for honda here in the uk and the warranty here states that with this problem it has been extended to a total of 5 years so maybe worth trying.
Well they changed the fluid and now the problem is gone! The warrenty was up, so they had to pay...the old man doesn't want me touching his car (go figure). Anyways, thanks for the solution! You guys rock
umm...well i'd like to say that i don't think it would be the rear diffs. it's a part time 4WD and then a crappy one at that. I own a 98 5spd and i experience a tire squeek while turning AND gassing. I haven't driven an auto cus i have a profound distate for auto CRVs. But yeah, the only time i got my rear to kick in was when i was at a stop sign, slight incline to the back, and i launched and my front tires lost traction for 2 seconds which engaged the back tires. hehe the CRV drifted. lol.
tell me if that situation could also be a factor.

I just did my 30k last dec03 on my dealer and I've started noticing the squeeling this month. My crv is already 46k, do you think I should call them and complaint about it?
depending on dealers...they have different service of what they do or 30k does not include rear dif fluid change...that is up to the tech to advice the customer he need to service it
even on the 5spd the problem is there starts out slightly to worse...
cause fluid in rear dif get dirty and contaminate the dif clutch and they start to chater real bad...the rear is posi dif...
