The DXI is a D15B7 without any electrical luxury, and the Esi is the same on as the SI (with the D16Z6) in USA..
The one with power mirros etc and a 1.5L engine in europe is called the Lsi, then we got the DX without anything.. it only got an engine (1.3) and ofcourse the VTI, which is with the B16A2 obd1 ..

If you want a faster car, go buy the ESi, it's a great car, but make sure it doesn't burn oil... else I say go for it....

Used to own an ESi myself great motor, till i dented it, replaced with a JDM VTi which is even better, more toys and lighter.

Before she went the Esi was burning oil though, piston wiper rings are a problem

Much as i love SOHC i am going DOHC as i want full VTEC and more revs

White smoke (steam) is from burning coolant. Burning oil causes a slightly darker smoke, blue or gray in color.

Starting from cold, if you get a little blue smoke on start up or blipping the throttle it indicates worn valve stem seals

when warm, the piston rings tend to show up full throttle at higher loads in VTEC (5.5krpm+) so beeter while driving. Watch the rear view mirror, or ideally someone else drive and watch more closely. At night it will show up in headlights. It may do it stationary in neutral, but while driving is better.

Clouds of blue smoke are bad A little black or blue smoke is not uncomon, especially during the vtec changeover, but any more than that is worth worrying about. Light or white smoke at startup isnt necessarily a problem, but lots of it is (water in oil)

Or ask the owner what the oil consumptions like, more than 0.5L per 1000miles indicates there may be a problem

hope that helps
