Default Is it a deal or a buyers beware at 200K?

I found a 89 HOnda accord Lxi for $1,500. The person over the phone said it has a little over 200K miles on it. I know hondas last a really long time but is that a good deal? or is it a 'buyers beware' deal? I am just wanting something to drive around that is a 'beater'(as people call it, i want it to work right but i am just using it to get around in that is reliable since my 95 altima was totaled, not my fault). What things on it should I check out on it myself first and/or take it to a mechanic. I know i am going to take it to a mechainc but what i am wanting to do is check it out myself to see if its worth taking it to a mechainc to check out to buy it. if 1500 is too high for it, what should I try to talk them down to? Any info would be greatly appreciated. THanks

I'd offer $1000. Since you want it as a beater it should be fine. Just check it out like you would any car you were buying.

i agree, 1500 is too high for a 89 with 200k, i drive a 86 civic for my job at dominos doing deliveries, haha, got it for 600!! ask 1000 or lower if possible, good luck

how long do you think the car will last to if it was kept up? from the person over the phone, he seemed like he took care of the car and kept it up. for $1000, is that a really good price or what type of 'price' is it?

Well you will really only be able to tell what condition it's in by looking at it. 200K is alot of miles. But if it's been taken care of then the mileage isn't as much of a concern. Go look at the car, if you like it make him an offer of whatever you think is appropriate. Start at $1000 or less (depending on condition of the car).

It is a Honda. Take care of it and it'll last forever.
