How many of you have purchased an extended warranty?
While I was at the dealer getting my clutch looked at (at 40K) I asked about an extended warranty. The guy quoted my about $1100 for a 4/48000 from some 3rd party warranty company. After doing a search I saw someone on here was quoted $910 for a 7/75000. What's the deal? Has anyone purchased one?
I didn't. I think in general, its rare for a honda to have many problems between 15,000 and 100,000. Definatally rare for the problem to be over $1,000.
I got one because I got a really good deal on it, 7yr/100000miles. I believe it cost about $800 at Acura of Brookfield. Is that 4/48000 miles in addition to the stock warrenty or 4/48000 total? Either way that seems pretty high priced.
YEP....before my initial 80,000 km (~50,000 mile) warranty was up, I took out the Honda 'extended warranty' and it's a good thing I did; I recently (late October) had my 'clutch' replaced under warranty - thank you very much Mr.

For me at least, the EW was definately worth the $$$.

No how no way... They build a good car, and if it breaks I'm sure it will be my fault,so no warranty anyway....
Sides if the clutch went or a cam rounded off etc bla bla bla... I would put better parts in anyway.
I bought a 7/70000 mile warranty over summer when I bought my car, I do alot of traveling (parents live in two diff countries). I think I was raped on the price, dont remember would I paid.

I got it as well! Kinda stupid because I basically have distroyed most of it!
But if anything does go wrong and it honda's fault, then I will use it. Other then that, this car never gets taken to them anymore! They can cause more damage then help. IE forgetting to put oil back in the car!!!!!!! Yeah it almost happened to me!!!!

I have and now I understand how big corporations make big profits. If you need an extended warranty when buying something new then dont even bother. honda's 4yr/50k is almost satisfactory. It might be better to wait until that first 49k miles is up then purchase another warranty for another 40 or 50k miles. I think thats what i should have done. 80% of my problems occured during the first 50k. after that you should be used to your car by then.
Yeah i got "Honda Extended Warranty" for free, they were giving it away as a form of promotion to get rid of the unsold 2001 model type r's here in australia. I took advantage of it, though it's just an extra 2 years/40,000kilometres.
I got one of those long time ago. I paid like $400 for 3 years/36k miles thru my credit union. Their customer service sucks and it's a hassle to get something repaired. Since it is 3rd party, they only have a FEW shops (if repair is over a certain amount) that you are allowed to take your car to. In my case, it paid for itself because it also covered towing ($120), then the new radiator ($375 + labor) and plus I got a couple of flat tires and they paid for the repair during the 3 year period.
I have now seen 2 instances where DC area dealers have drained the oil,
not put oil in, and then drove the car to the washbay, washed the car with the
engine running, then leave the car out front running and then lets the customer
drive away. Then they have the audacity to offer free oil changes for life
when the fault is brought up....
But they swear that the engine is fine... hahahaha

If you do want an extended warranty, you are unlikely for get a good price from your local dealer - they tend to mark them up 100%. I got a quote of $910 for an Acura warranty of 7/100 from http://www.4acura.com. Don't get aftermarket warranties - they have too many exclusions.

wouldn't buy one...figured I'd do too many mods to void it any way...
besides, most parts that I would break, I would want to replace w/ aftermarket anyways ie clutch, etc...

wow, that exact same thing happened to me!!! They called me to stop by to drop off this part that I wanted them to fix. (A broken air vent flap). WHen I came by I saw this guy trying to move my car across the lot to get washed since they were basically done with the service. However this guy couldn't figure out how to drive with a strong clutch. So I told him that I would move it myself. When got in, I noticed the oil light was on. So I asked him why that is. He said they changed the oil so it must have to sit for a sec to reset and turn off. Of course this sounded fishey, so I popped the hood and pulled the oil stick! 0 oil!!!!!!!!!!!! I yelled at this B!tch of a service manager and told them to put in oil now and to not charge me for this so called "service." Anyway the car was fine since it didn't run that much and it only started up once with the oil like that.
STUPID DEALERS!!!!!! Move of a reason I don't go to them anymore.
