Scott - Are you new to the Type R? They do make more noise than your average Honda. If you're still concerned, spring for a valve adjustment. Warning though - they ain't cheap at the dealer

Pat, who doesn't let any dealer touch his cars

How many miles were on the car when you got it? 9k seems real early for needing a valve adjustment, unless the car has been on track for 9k miles (less the 600 mi. break-in period )... See if you can locate another R in your area to compare this ticking that you're hearing. It might be normal, and is probably just a noise that Civics don't make...when I first got my car it was making so many wierd noises that I thought for sure something was wrong with it. I don't notice them anymore!

I started driving it with 6K. It sounds like my friends ls motor with 60K on it. Hes the one who pointed out the ticking to me. To me, it seemes normal but what do i know, i drove a talon for the last two years and that motor made the same noises(ticking) anyways.

adjust the valves at 15,000 miles.. you'll be ok.. Have trust in Honda motors, especially when they are stock.

The B18C5 has some of the loudest valvetrain noise I've heard in a newer Honda engine. I've listened to some D series engine, a B16A2, and the B18C5 is louder than both put together! Nothing to worry about, just adjust them at around 30,000 or so (sooner if you are tracking the car).

BWAAAAAAHHHH!! That's F-ing hilarious!!

And yes - valve adjustment at 15k miles. But don't expect it to get too much quieter

Fresh oil will make a difference in noise also.

Dumb me, I waited until 29K miles before I adjusted my valves. They were so loose, I couldn't believe it. To give you an idea, my exhaust valve lash ranged between .305mm and .330mm. Factory spec I believe is .19mm +/- .02mm. That's seriously loose, and I do not thrash my daily driver around very much. Adjust your valves at 15K like the manual says.
