LS motor: what is this black plastic thingy on top of my intake manifold?

LS motor: what is this black plastic thingy on top of my intake manifold?
On the intake manifold there is the map sensor than something next to it. It's the black box that looks about twice the size of the map. It's unplugged right now. I know it's some sort of solenoid cause I plugged it in and vacuum sucked into the port
