Hey all, tell me if this diagnosis sounds about right. Or if you can think of another more probable reason.

Car: '98 Crv - bone stock

Problem: Stutters hard at idle and during normal acceleration, Almost as if it's running on 3 cylinders. Stinks of unburnt gas. BUT if you floor it, it smoothens out and accelerates normally. My first thought is o2 sensor is toast and can't calculate air/fuel mix so it stutters until the ECU goes into Closed Loop mode (throttle floored).

Or at least this sounds right with my experiences with older Hondas....

Ideas?

 

No OBDII codes, I assume?

It does sound like a dying or a dead O2 sensor. My car displayed similar symptoms when the primary sensor was dead.

Hey, good call, do you know where the ECU is on this car?

Does the CRV have Two o2's or just one like my old civic?
