my gauge cluster works good but the gas gauge only works sometimes. when it doesnt work it reads full. does anyone know what could be wrong? thanks

It's possible that you have a frayed wire somewhere that is occasionally hitting something somewhere and grounding out.

 

i have the same problem on the same cluster, but i think mine is due to the float in the gas tank being off, so i just fill it up all the way and drive till 225 miles and then fill it again...

 

its not the cluster. i swapped it with a working one and same thing. what should i test next. i dont think its a wiring issue. i think something went bad.

If it's not the wiring or the gauge, then I'd have to say to check out the sending unit in the tank.

 

sendign unit hard to get to? what do i have to do, take out the fuel pump?
