Which synchro to replace, and Is the ITR F/D right for me?
I was advised i need to get my snychro replaced..
It grinds on the shift from 1st, into 2nd.
So is this technically the 2nd gear synchro that is worn? or the 1st?
On to the other question...
I see allot of people that that have the ITR final drive... What advantages does the ITR final drive have over, a gsr final drive? Was never really clear...
Will rpms be lower, or higher on the freeway? or does it make the car any better on top end? etc...
New teg owner/builder needs clearification...
Thanks

the usdm itr final drive is the same as the gsr final drive. (4.400)
the jdm itr final drive is 4.785
another popular choice is the ATS final drive, which is 4.92something.
a taller final drive will raise your rpms at a given speed in comparison to the stock final drive. with a 4.92 final drive, and stock gsr gear ratios, your car will be at 5000 rpms at 80 mph. do a search for "final drive" in the itr forum; there have been numerous posts on the subject and someone posted rpm/gear ratio comparison charts...
the final drive improves your acceleration while lowering your top speed. you'll have to shift more frequently (but not much). a taller final drive makes it easier to keep the car in the powerband, sacrificing top speed. not a bad tradeoff, imho.
cusco makes a 5.029 final drive.

Oh ok-- See this is why i was questioning it..
I do want to drive it once i turbo the vehicle... I might occasionally drive to work, on the interstate..
I just dont like the idea of sitting at 5000 rpm.. Is there any lower alternitives, that might still keep me in the 4's? or should I just leave the stock final drive in?

if you're planning to go turbo, i'd say just leave the tranny stock. taller final drives are really only necessary when you don't have gobs of power to give you acceleration.
edit: leave the tranny stock EXCEPT for an lsd... you won't hook up very well without one.

Honda only sells the syncro's as a set so you will need the 1-2 syncro set.
I've got a pretty much hybrid jdm itr tranny on my motor right now. I just took b16 2nd and 3rd gears and switched them with my gsr's and threw in the 4.7fd and lsd.
Overall its a nice improvement over the gsr tranny.
