OT: has any1 fought a reckless/speeding driving ticket and won?tell your story
fighting one right now.
reckless driving in NY is a misdemeanor, so I had to get an attorney otherwise the Judge would postpone the case until I found one. I got an attorney from a friend at work, $600 up front too.
It has been 5 months, 6 court visits, and the attorney got the misdemeanor dismissed/dropped, and they are still prosecuting me for the other charges.. speeding 90 in a 55 zone, no blinker when changing lanes and lastly passing on the right. We had handed in a request for a supprting deposition from th estate trooper issuing the tickets, but as bad luck has it, we did that on sept 13th, and here goes... on sept 11th Governor Pataki issued an executive order disallowing all cases to be thrown out based on a troopers inability to meet deadlines for depositions. fuggin great. well, I go back to court tomorrow night, so wish me luck.
if reckless driving was given to you as a "paper" ticket, and they checked off "misdemeanor" then you may need an attorney before the court hears your case.

passing on right and speeding...thats two violations..whats the third? recently i got "called in" by some good citizens for reckless driving..i went to the pretrial, and talked to the prosecutor, telling him that i was not guilty and was willing to tgo to trial, so he dropped the charge and that was that. I know getting called in and getting pulled over initially by highway patrol is different, but just tryin to say that you should at least attempt to fight it..get a public defender if a private attorney is too costly. good luck.
Pulled over 8 times since 98....not 1 ticket. I also beat a 46 in a 25. I argued it was "Safe for conditions".
8 times in 3 yrs? no ticket? geez talk about lucky....so Chris how did you argue "Safe for conditions" i need ideas and tips. thanks
I got a ticket for "unsafe lane change" and seriously, I didnt do squat! The officer told me that i had cutted the car behind me and it seriously breaked hard. I even told the officer I signaled and he agreed. My court is on 1/14/02. I am going to court and argue this out. What do you guys think?

Two summers ago I got a reckless driving ticket for "unsafe speed" and wonton disregard for the safety of others. Basically I was cajoled into racing my buddy in his MR2 Turbo while I was in my dad's Prelude. He stalled his car, I took off throught the (wet) intersection spinnig tires furiously. I was then immediately pulled over b/c I was too dumb to notice a cop at the gas station watching me. Anyway, I got a lawyer for $250 (isn't it great when a fraternity alumnus is a defense lawyer, hehe?), and went to court for it. I got a Prayer for Judgement. Its something that NC has that is basically a get out of jail free card, that can be used every 3 yrs for traffic violations. I didn't have to pay the fine, only the court costs. Pretty good deal I think.
Oh, and in my 6 yrs of driving I've gotten one speeding ticket, two speeding warnings and the aforementioned reckless driving ticket. And my driving record is clean, hehe, never had any points

Ah yes, the old "prayer for judgement". I recieved a ticket for do 78 in a 55 zone, driving to fast for weather conditions (it was sprinkling outside), and driving with no insurance (later that week I brought proof of insurance to the court house and had it dropped) I went to court, got the charged dropped to 62 in a 55 and paid the court cost. That sure as hell saved my *** or I would ahve been screwed. I was only 18 at the time and my insurance would have been a nightmare
