are there not centering holes that go thru each cam plate and into the cams?

I use a piece of an old timing belt nailed to a 2x4. This grips the pully without damaging it while you torque the bolt. Those small holes in the cams are not for torquing. You can also probably snug the bolts, install the belt, and use the belt to hold the pullys for final torquing. Make sure they don't jump teeth while doing this...

The centering holes he's talking about is located right behind the cam gear. There is a hole in the cam and cam holder(IIRC) which you can put something like a bolt through. It will lock the cam's at TDC. You can then torque down the cambolt without moving the cam.

What I do is shove a screwdriver through the cam gear and kinda put pressure on it against the cyl. head so it wont move.

Those don't exist on the H22a4.

edit: oops you said cam, not crank

the cam has a spot on it to grab with an open-end wrench

edit II: or at least the H23 ones do...

its right up against the lobe closer to the timing belt of the #2 cylinder

That's what I was hoping to see but there's none on my h22a1.
