Poor Man's JDM Conversion?
Anyone know anything about this body kit from Andy's Autosports? The California Type-R?

Asylum Motorsports has the front bumper for $250 and the headlights are from an Acura CL and run $4-500. It's a glass kit.
I like it and if I can find some headlights cheap and shoot it myself I'd have a JDM conversion for ~$500!

i consider myself an extreme anti-rice person, and i've seen the kit in person.
If it's done clean, it actually looks pretty nice. I would have never done it, but I wouldn't hate it too much (it really depends on the rest of the car..the pic you included looks pretty skanky) The one I saw was a deep silver, and it looked very clean..it was fast too.. 14.7 with bolt ons (GSR)

I've also never been a really big fan of that kit, but I was never quite sure why until now. I used to think it was the headlights, but just now I realized it's that huge upper grill opening. So I thought I'd see what it looked like without it:

Quite an improvement, I think. And a lot more similar to the real JDM front end. Just fill in that big hole, and I'll give it

A silvia conversion is much much better than the cali typer conversion in my opinion. A S-14 looks pretty nice.
Of coarse, nothing beats a JDM type-r conversion.
But whatever fits your taste.

i think that those things look like crap, that particular car isnt as bad since it doesnt have that out of place gaping hole inbetween the headlights, but still......eh
Some of those body kits make the car look like a space ship,I like the Jap TypeR conversion with HID's,if not just A set of side skirts and front and rear air dams.
Some of the pics I have seen look funny but I like the one attached here and I really like the photoshoped one with the top hole filled in! Looks like a Supra. Now to find the headlights for cheap and convince the wife this is necessary, or get into a wreck, yea, that's the ticket.
LS-Enthusiast: Can you also take the lower side scoop thingys out? not the Big center opening, but the ones to the both sides of it. I think it might look even cleaner then.
ummmmmm CRAP!!! ****!!! UGLY!!! ******* NASTY!!! ahem.....sorry, dont get that kit man....i would rather get the new 98 usdm front and back and slap on the OEM kit before even considering that crap
I'm surprised so many people dislike it so much. I think it's pretty clean compared to some kits like the Street Fighter or Buddy Club crap.

Good Lord.....I'd give you an hour before you crack that piece o' **** bumper....ever wonder why those bumpers are soo ceap?.....It's for show not a daily driver....why don't you settle with OEM ITR lip or Wings West RS Type II Vented Lip?.... i promise you won't get sick of how it looks....that's the problem with extreme kits it's just good for a month then you just get sick of it or your extreme bumper just gets outdated with all the other piece o' **** ricer bumpers that come out....
this one is phat.......i was gonna get it but i did think the opening was a little too big and the ground clearence was way too low..........i do like the supra side vents
I have heard of glass bumpers cracking but I don't understand why they would unless you actually hit something. There are whole kits made of glass...Cobra replicas, Diablo shells on Fiero frames, etc. Why would a glass bumper be prone to cracking unless you hit something? Maybe I'm being naieve.

truthfully, dont get any kits from andy's auto sports. If you look on their website, my friend previously owned the pink 93 prelude. Well guess what, the car was supposed to be accord special edition red with a purple pearl. They messed up, plus after his car came out of the shop, his side skirts fell off and his front bumper wasnt fitted right, then his front kit kept cracking every week! So he brought it back for them to reinforce the kit, (add more cheap fiberglass) and one week later, again, cracked! DONT buy fiberglass kits unless your car is stock height, or your strictly show, or you have lots of $$$ to keep fixing the cracks! Good luck to you though.... btw the cali type r kit only looks clean if its done right.
