Worth the money?
I previously owned a 95 Nissan Atima, but it was totaled(not my fault). I am looking for another car. One of my friends reccomended a 92-93 honda accord. the only ones i can find are for around $3,000 and have 150,000 miles. Is that a good deal? also if it is(or if it isnt also) how long do you think one of those would last? I am looking for a 5speed on one of those. Any info would be helpful. thanks(if you would suggest any other car that would be helpful also). Also I was wondering what things to check for when i look at a accord(like trouble spots and all that i could check, i admit i do love hondas, i just dont know much about them...i know they last a long time but u know...)
mine lasted 246000....but then an old man hit me... it was still runnin strong and it was ready for another 246000
90-93 accords are the most reliable cars on earth...period

if the car was taken care of by the previous owner, it could easily last 300,000 miles. generally speaking, the condition of the exterior and interior will reflect how well the engine was maintained. always test drive (and not just 5 minutes) and ask for maintenance and repair records.
Funny you should ask this. I just bought a '92 accord LX. The price will vary on a 4th gen because you could but a '90 DX with high miles, to a '93 EX with low miles. On my car the average milage would be about 135k (after polling all the cars I saw for sale) mine was 115k. Buying from dealer or private party? $3000 for 150k miles sounds within the normal range. The engines are outstanding from an engineering POV will go 200k+. But the big expense you want to avoid (which I didn't) is: rear wheel well rust. I didn't realize that the previous seller will most likely hide any sign of body rust through half assed repair(it will reappear within a year)
So do this:
Take a hand mirror and a flashlight, look at the inside lip of the rear wheel well all the way around on both sides, if you have to take a screwdrver and unscrew part of the rubber wheel well liner, do it. Look for any sign it's been repaired. Also use a small magnet to see if it's bondo or not. Look for rust under the gas cap too.
This repair will run me about $2,000 to permenantly fix, which most people wouldn't do because the car's hardly worth it. But I hate rust and I won't drive a rusted car.
My recommendations to you is but a '92-'93 accord EX 4d manual. the EX has the more powerful f22a6 engine. I would then try to lighten up that 2900 lb. beast as much as possible
-Good luck

90-93 Honda Accords are the best mass-produced vehicle on the road. Maintenance is a joke. Easy on gas. Last forever if you keep up on maintenance. Comfortable, roomy, plenty of trunk space. Lots of aftermarket available. A very good platform for whatever you are looking for... unless you want to go off-roading
to permanently fix rust you have to grind it off till you get to virgin metal and work your way up from there with primer, and paint...some good body work...
one thing i have noticed with that generation accord is that is usually develops rust spots on the rear right about the wheel ( the quater panel)...
i am sure that if you search longer and hard you can find a 94 or 95 accord for the same price

I'll field this one.
To perminently fix as I understand. if you have rust in both rear wheel wells.
Buy 2 new quater panels. OEM new, about $1025. Have a body shop cut the old outer quarter panels off, then they can access the inner quarter panel, there will likely be rust there which can be cut off or sandblasted. They should check the bottom of your doors and the rocker panels while they are at it. put on new outer quarters and paint.
Around $2,000 total, more if rust in other places too.
