Default Just Finished Installing Toda Spec Killa B's

Greg (Vtec4gs) and I just finished installing Toda Spec B's, portflow springs and retainers this weekend. I was kinda of paranoid about installing some aggressive cams in my car but after making the first test run my paranoia was GONE. At first, I wasn't too thrilled about the lumpy idle cause it feels like I'm driving a F***** domestic. But I'm getting used to it and lovin every minute I drive my car. Having a Vtec or fuel controller can help that lumpy idle. So its not much of a big deal anymore. Mid-range and Top end is very responsive and fast. Throttle response feels better. I gotta take her to the dyno soon. So I can take every advantage of my installs.
P.S.
Thanks Greg(Vtec4gs) for the great installation or advice. This guy knows his shiettt.
One piece of advice that I can give:
The faster you car is; THe more problems you will have and The more money you will spend. Take your time, save your money and do it the right way.

on the install.

Sometimes I hear of cars idle'ing very bad or shutting off sporadically after spec b installs(before tuning). I guess this was not the case for you. This is the only fear keeping me from going toda. Any steps I can take to have a smooth install and drive around untuned for awhile without my engine dying?

BTW, gotta love that lumpy idle.

On my Field Vtec controller unit I lean the fuel out around -9% at 1000rpm and it seems to work fine for me. But, I cold days and start ups, I'll lean it out til -15% @ 1000rpm

I have B's in my ITR, and the idle is actually pretty good.

Greg, I wanna go dyno again. I think we can squeeze more out of my car.

i wouldn't do it, but supposedly the stock (ITR) valvetrain is okay up to stock redline of 8600...

jason- who wouldn't even run spec a cams without the toda valvetrain because he is **** (cautious)

welcome to the world of the B boyz... lol

Anyway, post up a plot once you get them dyno'd. I'd be very interested in comparing!

I'm not as **** as Jason - I'm running the stock ITR valvetrain with my Spec B's. I'm not terribly worried about it. I will go with a Toda valvetrain at some point, just not yet. I am *very* careful to keep out of the rev limiter however. I rarely rev above 8k.

I would think hitting the rev limiter would be ok? I mean redline would remain stock since ecu has not been reporgramed.

So how do the spec b's feel with stock valvetrain? is it lumpy idle?

Redline is stock, yes, but B's put a lot more stress on the valvetrain, due to their size. So I prefer to keep things a bit safer by not pushing it...

Idle should be the same as a Toda valvetrain-equipped car -- lumpy

ok, both guys here running B's did what I advised them to, use the stock R outer springs with inner portflows and the portflow titanium retainers ... I've done it for many people and it works fine with spec B cams.

I would think hitting the rev limiter would be ok? I mean redline would remain stock since ecu has not been reporgramed.
On the stock valvetrain, you will break your retainers before floating valves as a result of banging the limiter, the stock honda maps cuts fuel on all cylinders as opposed to an MSD that cuts ignition on alternate cylinders to its a much softer limiter than stock.

yeah, I'm working on dynoing 5 cars right now, whoever wants in has to let me know (via email) with the subject "DYON MY CAR" ... I'll schedule a dyno day in central NJ with a new sponsor, Jim Lorocca.
