Default D16Y8 No compression on ALL cylinders

Hi all, been a long time since I've been on the forums but I recently re-acquired my old '99 EX with the stock D16Y8 that I had manual swapped. I sold it about 6 years ago and for most of that time it had sat outside in a field. Now that I have it back I was taking care of getting it back to being roadworthy starting with the clutch and transmission since they were both completely shot. After I got it driveable again I took it for a test drive where to see what else it needed. It had a high idle and would sputter out while driving but didn't seem like anything unmanageable. So I parked it in my driveway to take a lunch break. After I came back, I found that the car sounded like it had no compression when cranking. This was very strange to me since just earlier that day it was cranking very healthy. I pushed it into my garage and pulled the valve cover expecting a broken timing belt but the belt (to my knowledge) looked good and my timing marks were correct. Running a compression test is showing me ZERO compression on ALL cylinders. Gonna try another tester tomorrow since I cannot imagine what would have caused this especially given the circumstance.

Anyone have any ideas for things to check *before* pulling the head? Just don't want to go through all that just to find out it was something that could've been solved without it. I'm fairly mechanically inclined but have never torn down/rebuilt an engine before.

dont pull the head just yet. take the valve cover off and have a buddy key the ignition, Ive had timing belts chew teeth off at the crankshaft gear. Yes the timing marks are lined up, but just do it to be sure
