Icon5 Replacing ECU - Reprogramming Immobilizer and VIN

Hello,

I have a 2013 that I am looking to replace the ECU with a used unit (matching part number). My understanding is that the immobilizer and VIN need to be programmed to the replacement ECU.

Can someone please tell me what I need in order to accomplish this?

Ive watched a few videos where they claim to be using either Autel or Launch scan tools but after speaking with both companies, they are telling me that its not possible.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Autel 906 here, have programed many Honda immobilizers. They have a replace PCM function in the immobilizer tools.

VIN doesn't get changed at least I haven't found a way to change the VIN with the Autel.

Not sure about 8th gens, but I have a 2004 EX I purchased with no key. I found a donor 04-05 EX, pulled the ECU, ignition switch with key, and Immobilizer and swapped all in and it fired right up, no problem. That was the easiest way for me. I later was told by a locksmith that if you have the original ECU AND immobilizer , he could make and program a working key. I don't think you can do that with the later gens laser cut keys.

The later stuff includes the under dash fuse box as part of the combination of parts that communicate to the immobilizer.

I wish these scan tools weren't so expensive. Were any of the immobilizers you've programmed for 9th gens? All the videos I've found mention that the VIN needs to be changed in order for it to work.

I'd have the dealer do it but the closest is 45 minutes away, wants to charge me 200 to reprogram the new ecu and if it doesn't work, I'm out of luck and have to tow it back home.

Does anyone have recommendations for cheap but good J2534 adapter that I can use with HDS? I'm leaning in that direction as I'm not sure that the cheap stand alone options from Autel and Launch will do what I need.

I'm a tune and I have immobilizer removing capabilities if you're nearby. If you give me your location I can find someone who can help you?

Yes a 2013 Civic Si then reprogrammed to a 2011 CR-Z immobilizer.
