Crofty really made something from nothing in Oz r/ SEB5's pit strategy. That's not difficult at allllllll. I was watching Bahrain FP1/FP2, and he (Crofty) was still harping on the "confusion" in Oz and PdR basically said "STFU I'll explain on the Sky Pad".

But back to the point; if couch esty and SkyF1 know what's going on before you do as a strategist on a leading F1 team, things are looking poorly for your career advancement.

 

 

it all makes sense if you think you have superior pace on a harder compound tire. look, it's only the 2nd race of the year and we can easily 2nd guess them all day. they just didnt't know what pace ferrari had on a 1-stop. obvious strategy is obvious looking backwards

i still think there's a damn good reason merc is playing so conservative with the engine modes and it will all play out well for them in the end

 

But... what if I was second guessing them during the GP? Where's my prize for that?

Even HAM was calling for them on the radio to inform him what he needed to do. They (Merc) were clearly wrong footed during the race, and it didn't take a postmortem to start wondering why.

Back to a point you made earlier (I think), Ferrari won 2x because Merc let them by being too conservative with modes/strategy until it was too late to react. Where F1 used to be 2-3 outright sprints to the finish, now they're trying to balance engine usage with pace. Oz wasn't obvious they were out of the window, Bahrain (IMO) became pretty obvious during the event.

 

Ham himself said he was racing to a delta and was a little miffed that his boys on the pitwall weren't telling him how fast he needed to go

 

agreed on all counts, it looks bad from the couch for sure.

 

I seem to remember this might've been one of PT's wins when he won three in a row.

 

You'd be correct. Andretti was gaining fast and I think he would have won if Juan fangios Toyota didn't blow up and cause the race to end under caution with 10 laps to go.

 

I wasn't a PT fan back then. I was rooting for Zanardi that year and PT's three-win streak got me worried.

 

I was reading through the comments on a post on Marco Andretti's IG feed that showed Nazareth Speedway now vs when it was still an active track.

Found out in the comments that it can never be restored to a racing facility. Something in the contract when ISC sold it to the town that specifically states that. Sad.
