Doing a swap on a 5th gen right now, and surprisingly I've actually never noticed these insulators in a car before:
The rubber inside both (part #12 and #13) was pretty dry/rotted so it all fell apart when the D series was pulled out. These look like they're intended as supplementary mounts for the trans and the "accessories" side of the engine.
Are they worth replacing? We'll be using 62-65a mounts for the car. If it'll help keep things more rigid or in the correct location I'll replace them, but I'm not sure how useful these really are. Literally have never seen any other 5th gen that still had these in the bay.
We're also going to be using an Ingall's damper, not really sure how much of a difference these little rubber inserts may actually make.
I'm also assuming since this was out of a D engine bay, part #14 and maybe some other little things may be different between the D/B engines. Honestly have never pulled or seen an engine that still had these on it.
I still have them in both my cars. 5th with a Bswap and 6th with stock D. Replacing my rotted ones in my 6th made a nice difference.
Hmm, cool. Finding the rubber for the inserts will be easy, I think I'll have to replace that bracket on the trans side though, I'm going to assume the D won't fit the B.
I am still running them in my EM1, even with Hasport 75a mounts. I just bought some anchor brand ones off rock auto and threw some energy suspension inserts in them.
Some guys say you don't need them. I've also seen some of those guys rip the driver's side post mount right out of the block doing hard launches with sub 100whp D-series engines. I always run them, found new ones stiffened up the engine quite a bit.
Wow. I wonder if it's just a Texas thing to rip them out, or if I've just had a weird streak. Have never worked on a Civic/Integra before that still had these in place.
Torque mounts. Suppose to limit engine movement. Maybe a bit of insurance if an engine mount/bracket breaks, at least you'd still be able to drive the car. I broke the rear bracket on an '88 Integra and the axle popped out leaving me stranded, pretty sure it didn't have these.
I have them on my GSR hatch and see no reason to get rid of them. They take up so little space and I really don't notice them down there. Took me two years to realize my passenger side bracket isn't stock.
