Re: 2000 Insight Brake Drums on a 95 Civic EX 2dr Coupe manual trans
It's hard to tell based on the differing shapes of the drums, I'm not sure how deep in the shoes go, but it looks like you could turn the back edge down 2mm if you could get it chucked in a lathe. If you had an old hub you could lend the machine shop that would help a lot. Otherwise you'll need to have spacer machined to go between the hub and the drum.

I'm just gonna go with the spacer so I don't have to have drums machined everytime I replace them.
These hopefully work with no modifications. It was free shipping so i got 3mm and 5mm because it was working somewhere between there.

im thinking, regardless of where the bolt is threaded into, it still is torqued up against the trailing arm bushing rod, which presses against the floor of the unibody.
it doesn't seem like the weld nut was pressed against the floor of the unibody, it just seems like it's there to pull the bolt against the bushing rod and make it flush with the floor of the unibody.

At a minimum, just looks really involved to keep rear drums...

How often are you planning on replacing them? Seriously, on those cars a set of drums will often outlast the car other than in places where road salt is a concern.

$20 for some wheel spacers, or $100 to have them machined down?

For me, it isn't even the weight savings.
Shedding 2 lbs from the center of rotating mass is less effective than if the 2 lbs came from, lets say, the tire. This is a big thing when it comes to building a wheel (ie; mountain bike). And even then, you lose some of the flywheel effect when at a constant speed.
Re: 2000 Insight Brake Drums on a 95 Civic EX 2dr Coupe manual trans
Still, i went from the biggest ugliest cast iron 201mm drum to the smallest lightest 181mm aluminum drum. I already have light enkei rims and the cooling fins in these insight drums look different
in the process i found that i had energy suspension trailing arm bushings for some reason and so i went to oem.
i found all that rust above my trailing arm bushings and stopping and slowing it saved or extended life of the car.
replaced rear bearing & hub assemblies,
Found out my passenger Lower Control arm was bent and so i replaced them with function 7s.
ALL I'm really worried about is the trailing arm bushing bolt, I'm just gonna drive on it. What's going to happen?

I like that you tried something I've never seen before. If I was making an ultimate street sleeper, I'd jump all over this. These and a set of VX Enkei's would be the ticket.
Re: 2000 Insight Brake Drums on a 95 Civic EX 2dr Coupe manual trans
Heck yea I'm not sure if my enkeis are vx or what but im gonna post pics if this if it ever gets done. It's been a learning experience.
This is what I'm gonna do about the trailing arm bushing bolt captive nut, same idea just one nut this time and the bottom stack of washers is wide enough to meet the bottom of the broken bracket parts.
I figure the bushing is pushing down on that bolt when i turn the car too , so i want most of that force to be on that big washer in the pic and not the weak outer floor.
will this work? Plus the bushing will take most of the force anyway

I drove it for an alignment and everything seems ok.
2 or 3 issues stopped them from completing the alignment,
1 was this rear lower toe link compensator arm was dented in the middle and totally bent. It's been that way for idk how long but a long time.
I couldn't get it off. I used pb blaster all around, flame, impact wrenches, extractor sockets, until the bolt head was just nothing.
I started cutting and its like everything was fused/welded together. It was hell but i got everything free except this nut in it's slide channel stuck in there. How do i get it out so i can install my Hardrace adjustable toe link compensator arms?
A pulled back view of the problem area, you see i cut a hole for access to theback of the nut and bent the sheet metal down. Looking in that hole, there's the problem. Guess I'll just chop away at the slider channel until it comes out?

Ouch! I hope you figure it out! Pictures did not show up for me...
