KTLA had some good aerial footage of this plane, a 747, and a USAF C-130 over the Liberty Fire near Riverside, CA.

Haaserati?

Maserati could be set to return to Formula 1 for the first time since the fifties as the powers that be behind the marque plan to become title sponsor of the Haas F1 Team. Several sources claim that Ferrari and Maserati CEO Sergio Marchionne is setting the groundwork to return the Modena-based sportscar manufacturer back to Formula 1 after a 60 years absence. The deal, which is expected to be a barter of sorts worth $25-million, would cover Haas’s Ferrari power unit expenses for the brand's exposure on the American team's cars.

30% of F1 teams would be beholden to one corporation?

methinks liberty are out of their league

Honestly it's no different then it was a day ago. 3 Ferrari teams, 3 Merc teams, 3 Renault teams and 1 Honda team. Ferrari might be a little more entrenched with Haas and Sauber but if Ferrari pull out those teams are in trouble anyway.

Ferrari won't leave. Where are they gonna go? WRC lol? The rumors of proposed WEC regs heading moar toward a GT style roadcar might be a little moar appealing but no one watches WEC in months that don't end with une.

Couple things. Force India remains Force India. Alfa Romeo Sauber F1 Team and Red Bull Toro Rosso Honda Why Red Bull twice? Could it be Dr. wants to already start tying his brand to Honda in F1. Wouldn't it be risky to do that if RB had questions about the PU?

-note not rhetorical questions, honestly trying to figure out the thinking

I think there will be a historical payment. It will be capped and be something along the lines of under 5 years in F1 you get this much, 10 years this much, 20 years this much, and 30 years or more this much. That not only gives Ferrari some extra money but it gives the teams value, even the lesser teams.

I also think Ferrari won't get their veto. Liberty and Ferrari both know Ferrari has nowhere to go. I do think Liberty will make some concessions doe. I'd like to see a deal where you could swap wind tunnel time for track testing time but that prolly goes against their cost control ideals.

So for those of you not frequenting F1 Tech I found an interesting post by the user Wazari (Claims he is a former Honda engineer and was brought back as a consultant for the new F1 venture and then left earlier this year. A couple people have verified his claim, but still is an internet forum so you decide if he is who he says he is).

Anyway
I do not know what I'm wishing for? Just a little more transparency. That's all. Some people bring up cooling and claim it's all Honda's doing as McLaren had nothing to do with the "internals". That couldn't be further from the truth as an example. Why wasn't it disclosed that Honda's proposed and recommended cooling package was dismissed as it would "compromise" the aero work and Plan C cooling package had to be implemented against Honda's initial wishes. That's just one example. There are many others. Sorry, I'm just venting.

Anyway, as others have mentioned it's water under the bridge.
If true, this is what I was talking about. If McLaren want to move up the grid the "be reasonable, do it my way attitude" is not going to work. Again, this assumes what was written is true. I can say his posts have often been right so

I wonder how Renault would respond if McLaren were to act the same way in 2018. At least having other Renault powered cars they won't be able to hide behind the PU. Hopefully everythign is fine and we have another top team at the front. I'm worried tho

I think a lot of folks had that sort of feeling that McLaren's expectations/demands were unreasonable.

That's why I've been defending Honda for quite some time.

Ending wasn't as loud as I expected. Perhaps rather than waste energy making noise McLaren are storing it up for 2018.

Honda make a **** box PU (relative to the competition).

How much of it was unreasonable requirements from McLaren vs Honda unable to hit attainable targets is unknown. But lettuce just say I think McLaren knows how to build a winner more than I think Honda does.

You'd think that, but the rumors of oil lines not being tightened, transmission issues, and parts installed wrong on the PU by McLaren personnel make me wonder.

Do I think Honda share the bulk of the fault, yes. Do I think McLaren is faultless? Absolutely not.
