Well using the same hard and soft compound at every track would result in tyres that don't wear at all or too much, depending on the track. I understand why they want so many compounds but why not just call them soft/med/hard and then have 3 different degrees of the soft/med/hard. Casual fans wont care if its soft tyre 1,2, or 3 being run during a weekend.
