Is RB gonna win those 2 races with a Honda PU in 2019? I want Honda to do well in F1 but even I wouldn't take that leap of faith.

 

i know everyone's claiming newton's law dictates that honda never will be good in f1 but it's just not the case now that the optimal engine architecture for the formula has been determined and everyone is copying it.

what do you think the engine disparity was at the end of v8 era? 15bhp? that's like 2%. we will get there again. either by force or naturally.

Yeah but it isn't just total hp difference now. Recovery and mapping is so important so it's having peak power for as long as possible not derating halfway down the straight like Honda was doing last year.

Maybe Honda will get it figured out but I have limited faith in that ability at this point. Maybe if they had made moar gains this season I would feel better but I'm starting to wonder if the diminishing returns claim isn't as valid as I thought it was.

 

HAM as derating at the end of the straight in malaysia not three weeks ago. we've now had four complete years with these engines and once the science is worked out it's just copypasta. before honda joined i remember watching renault fail horribly with everything you're talking about. they brought in consultants and got things sorted out eventually. shirley honda can keep failing but i think they're getting a helping hand from behind the scenes if ya know what i mean

 

At the end of the straight yes, Honda were doing it before the mid point of the straight last year. And not even the longest straights. I sure hope you are right, I just have no faith that anyone is gonna get close to Merc. I think their car is making this season a little closer than it should be.
