The Official Formula 1 2017 Season Thread
Just imagine if they had brought in a rookie and then started giving said rookie preferential treatment. I bet HAM would go bonkers...
Did anyone ever think he was a patsy though? Or was it just a David Robinson/Tim Duncan situation where ALO was supposed to carry things until HAM got his feet under him...it just happened he hit the ground running?
Is apples and oranges today doe. Unlimited testing yo
Why you'll likely never see another HAM (not saying HAM wasn't/isn't super talented). Using 2 year old cars to test won't give the last 9 or 10/10ths you need to come in and challenge for a WDC right away.

Over 2015 Sainz out qualified VER, the bulk of which happened in the early part of the season. Late season Max was routinely faster than Sainz. At the mid point of the season they were almost tied for points. VER - 10 with SAI -9. Max ended up 31 point ahead. So I would venture to say he wasn't quick like HAM from day 1. I'd bet if there was unlimited testing he wood have been.
I realize SAI was a rookie too, but SAI had better pace early in the season but we saw Max pull away from him as Max gained more experience.

edit-
edit2- oh fuuuu smoke blowing back into the bay soon.
Well wait for the next hour run, maybe it will change. That model is very fickle. It can give you ideas what might happen but run to run consistency is pretty poor.
Not sure if you noticed but you can change areas (even select the whole CONUS). There are times where some or all of the model will choke and only part or even none of the that hour's run will be available.

yeah i went back and looked at some of Friday's model runs, some were missing. glad you pointed me back at it. i've been waiting for the winds to shift back onshore pushing smoke back into the bay, so this is confirming that at least, and predicting it will blow out by tomorrow evening. it will be interesting to see how it plays out.
we've noticed dramatic differences in smoke smell just by driving 3-5 miles in either direction (from no smell at all to eye-watering) so i'm sure it will be a crapshoot.

Didn't realize that fire rules for buildings aren't always required.

Some of the dash and body cam footage released are crazy. I wonder at what point a vehicle stops due to lack of oxygen in a fire. I remember on the news a fire a few years ago where a family didn't know a fire was near their rural house (no neighbors nearby) until someone used the bathroom at 2am and saw the bright glow and smelled smoke. They left right away but one of the cars stalled and the news said it was due to lack of oxygen because the fires were so close and there was so much smoke. The occupants of the car didn't survive.
