i don't have a Honda anymore but I always want one. I've moved on to different platforms but Hondas gave me the most enjoyment bothin in building and driving. By the looks of this thread, I might have to start searching.

Honestly dude, at my age and where I'm at in life I give ZERO ***** about the "bought vs. built" argument, and having to feel "guilty" for buying someone else's 99% complete car. If you're capable of building one well, then you're capable of buying one that's well sorted, and won't end up being a piece of **** in disguise. If you have the time, tools, money, and space to build one then that's awesome too. I see it as I saved myself at LEAST $10,000.00 and over a year's worth of down time that would have tied up my garage, caused numerous tows to and from a body shop, dyno tuning, etc. etc. "The fun is in the build" has actually never been my mantra. After I built my silver hatch in 2002 I drove it in the exact same state for TEN YEARS and simply enjoyed DRIVING it.
If you're looking for specific models, etc. let me know because I come across some really nice ones from time to time just browsing mostly FB groups such as NWP4LIFE and K20A.org.
I haven't been on here in awhile and saw this thread. Dude your silver civic was my all time favorite from way back! Glad to see you're back in another one. Super clean car man. Do you still have the civic wagon?

Words of wisdom right here. It's amazing what's possible when you don't let the ego get in your way.
I do 95% of my own work on my cars, but only so long as it's something I feel comfortable with AND don't mind doing. If I'm choked for time, or just don't feel like jacking with it I'll take the time to find a reputable shop.
For example, sometime in the near future I'll be taking the hatch to an electric specialist shop to get the entire system looked over and the last remaining gremlins sorted out... Because I'm tired of effing with it myself between work and my other headaches.
For those of you still following along, thank you, and as a token of thanks check out this short walk-around clip. I cut it short because my phone went nuts and didn't let me finish the walk around. I'll do a better, more complete one calling out ALL the little insane details the next time I've gotten it cleaned up - probably after the PPF wrap is done.
Had an inner wall on a section of flex pipe come apart just beyond the header collector. $60.00 later at the finest exhaust fabricator in GA, and it's all good again.
What muffler is that? You like? I am on the hunt to replace the Aero Turbine in mine...
It sounds fart pipier than I'd like. I do not attribute that to the muffler though. There's only so much resonator that could be fitted into the space beyond the shifter box, but before the rear LCAs, and I don't run a convertor, etc. I'm not sure any muffler will pipe this thing down enough without hurting power.
That thing is ******* fabulous, good lord I'm envious ...
And thanks! It will be literally my picture of perfection once I get a few thing sorted - it's a great start though!

Thanks. I had thought about Vibrant. I keep hearing good things about the A'PEXi WS, so I may just have to go for it and find out...
What mirrors are those? Sorry if I missed this detail.

What's your engine set-up? Apex-i Ws is ******* awesome, and quiet. If they offered a 3'' I'd run that **** for my own set-up, but...

They're stock EK power mirrors, and they work. They will also likely be swapped out sooner than later. They don't look bad necessarily, but I'd rather have some Spoon style, smaller mirrors. I'm really big on "flow" and the way I look at the entire windows/mirror area is like an "island" and I'd rather have smaller, black mirrors to flow with the black window trims, etc.
Is the battery in the spare tire well?
It is an OEM Honda fit battery, and it's neatly tucked inside the area where the factory airbox resonator was located. The right lower corner where an AEM CAI filter would reside. I can still jump it off as the positive terminal can be accessed, and the ground cable would go to the timing side engine mount bolt.

That is nice and tight about the battery re-lo, I love it! That way you can still keep the spare while getting the battery low.
Engine is B18C1, I thought they had a 3"/80mm option for the WS? I will have to go back and look. I will update my thread with whatever I do. I just do not like the sound of the Turbine in the cabin.
Since the first time you showed me this car, I've been impressed. I'm still floored to be honest man. I do have a question. Are you planning any significant changes?
wow, very sick. the only thing that would bother me is those "ek" side mirrors. but sick non the less.
Those are already on the chopping block. I'm looking for Spoon-like mirrors that don't fit like garbage. I've just gotten the paint scanned, and a small jar of touch up paint mixed up at a local paint mixing shop. They have the exact paint mix on file now, so when I do find mirrors I'll probably leave the bases black, but paint the mirror parts body colored.

There is a short list of changes planned for the car. Nothing major, honestly, but if I have an order for the list it goes:
- Full front end clear bra/PPF wrap
I've already dropped the car off once to get this done, but the OEM Honda touch up paint did not match exactly (was being used to fill in one rock chip on the front end) so now that I have the perfect color-matched touch up paint that's a "go" again. This won't change a single thing appearance-wise for the car other than it won't get banged up DD'ing.
- Mirrors
As mentioned in the reply to R Senik, the EK mirrors are the first appearance mod. I must find properly fitting Spoon-type mirrors though.
- Spoon SW388 wheels
I've got a line on the exact Spoon wheels that came off of my silver B18C5-EH2 hatch, and I'm still debating if I give up 8'' wide wheels for 6.5'' wide wheels in order to have authentic, 8lbs. wheels again. There's a huge nostalgia factor here that might trump logic, so we'll see. I might even ****** the Spoons, toss some more DD'able tires on them, and keep the 949s just to change the looks up, or to swap on with the sticky RE-11s should I ever decide to auto-X it, etc.
- PIC full coilovers 12k/14k
The current sus rides so damn smooth, but it's soft for my liking. They are OG Neuspeed/Bilsteins and at the current height (which honestly is perfect) they are raised up all the way LOL. I need stiff sus to really drive into, and out of corners.
- LSD
Here's where I'm not 100% certain of the path, but the end result will be an LSD tranny. Either keep my minty Type S and toss in the LSD, upgrade 2nd gear to something stronger while I'm in there (it's the K achilles heel) and do main/countershaft bearings for insurance, OR just get a new DC5-ITR tranny and enjoy the shorter gearing along with the factory minty goodness, and its LSD.
- Aftercooler set-up
Longer down the road, and maybe not even at all, is an aftercooler set-up. It hasn't detonated yet even in 95 degree heat, but IAT temps have to be pretty high in stop and go in the summer. This would keep things cooler, and if nothing else provide more long term reliability. A side effect could even be more whp.
Wow man that is a really well sorted setup from the looks of it. I am super **** when it comes to the details and fully understand how much time and energy goes into the small stuff most people don't even notice. As far as your built vs bought feelings....there just isn't enough time in the day to do much for yourself when you have kids at home, and enjoy being a parent who spends time with their kids and not every free second in the garage wrenching on a honda.
I would make sure you stay in contact with the seller to ensure you have first dibs on his future builds. I could never part with a project of that magnitude for $10k. He wasn't supporting a meth habit right?
