Also Karun Chandhok's theory on Merc's struggle is that the car does not like low grip tarmac.
Such as Malaysia, Singapore, certain tracks right after rain, etc.
He believes it should be quick at Suzuka as the surface is very sticky.

Track prob gonna be green Fri/Sat. Looks like sum good rain
if William tap KUB for the drive I will def be rooting for them. Would be nice to have Bob back.

i'm sure f1 engines are so wacky there's probably all sorts of tricks to play.
esteban, i know the MGU-H charges the batteries under throttle. for some reason i think that's more efficient than running the MGU-K under load - that is speculation based on what comments leaked to the f1 press in the past. maybe less loss than recovering energy through the drivetrain? MGU-H turbo to motor/generator is basically like an aircraft APU
that's an interesting theory. if they're magically on pace come sunday then that will be hard to explain otherwise

As you mentioned the ERS-H is the more efficient recovery strategy, whereas you went ERS-K for accel/decel. If you have ERS-K harvesting, that essentially means you're either decelerating (bad for coasting) or having to overcome the ERS-K drag/generator with engine power (bad for fuel consumption saving). So I assume in the lift and coast fuel save mode, you'll only get the ERS-K activated during firm braking (charging and decelerating when you want it), and to accelerate out of the next corner saving fuel and increasing the rate of accel.
i've taken a class in controls. I do not want.
There are discussions on F1T about the different modes and even overrides the driver can use to alter the harvesting strategy. For instance a driver trying to overtake someone at the end of a straight would not want derating to occur.
I've found those discussions quite interesting. Once you spend a little bit of time thinking about the control modes and the various ways energy can be harvested and deployed you realize how complex these systems are and how easy it is to miss the mark or make big gains.

Bob has no upside for Stroll. If Stroll beats KUb so what, he's been out of F1 and was seriously injured. If KUB beats Stroll that is very bad for Stroll's future as far as a better ride goes.
It should be noted Williams isn't afraid of KUB the Stroll family is...

So right now it looks like Q and probably even FP3 will be dry/drying but FP1/2 look pretty wet and the rain Fri/Fri night would suggest a green track Sat.
From a Sponsor point of view I think KUB is the one to go for. If I'm Martini I think about all the extra camera time Bob is going to get, especially during the first half of the season. Until the novelty wears off you'll be seeing a lot of him on camera I would think, even if the car is a POS.
The United States Grand Prix will be broadcast on ABC, with all the races being broadcast live on ESPN, ESPN2 or ABC. More than 125 hours of Formula 1 programming, including all practice sessions, qualifying and races, will be shown live and in replay across ESPN platforms.
In a separate announcement Sky Sports F1 has announced that World Champion Nico Rosberg will be joining the commentary team in Japan this weekend, alongside Martin Brundle, Damon Hill, Johnny Herbert, Anthony Davidson and Ted Kravitz. He will also be making appearances on Sky Sports in Italy and Germany.
I think Nico could be a GREAT commentator. He's very intelligent, he's well spoken & I think in a non-competitive setting he's quite charming. He also has credibility as a guy who actually had enough pace to keep up & occasionally beat Lewis.
