Somehow from googling "road racing civic" I came across this thread. Lol

In regard to the T1 demolition derby last weekend, I want to say it was max's fault initially. From what I saw, he made a correction move toward iceman (probably attacking the inside line) far before Seb swung in front of him. After that initial correction move he just slowly coasts into iceman and makes contact as Seb crosses in front of him. Perhaps Max didn't see Kimi making the start of his life from the left of him.

Honestly after watching all of the onboards it looks very much like a racing incident. Seb was just defending to the inside which drivers do all the time. I don't think either of them expected Kimi to be there like you said...

Are you naming the boy Fernando? Was that even discussed?

Wife gave me the ok to go with Michael for both boys but opted not to. It was more of a finalist for #1 (Mike made the top 3)...When #2 came along, I thought about it, and you know - Michael was never a #2 so it wasn't really an option.

that would have been appropriate. #2 screams his head off. #1 never did that.

X2

Seb did the same thing every other pole sitter does. I can't blame Kimi for getting an awesome start. If he spun the tyres, and caused a pile up, then yes, but Kimi did everything right. Maybe Max could have avoided it if he had slowed earlier, but he has a pack of cars behind him, he doesn't how close, and this is racing.

My first reaction was not how could he do that? but was what the f just happened. Not the most scientific way but that's how I usually come to the conclusion of someone at fault or racing incident.

let me just understand what you guys are saying. everyone agrees a racing incident, which to me means there's no penalties assessed and we all agree with that (including the stewards for once).

now despite that we all get to armchair quarterback and we can still assign blame for who caused the crash. what i'm hearing you guys say is that max is at fault for not yielding to the ferrari's. is that right?

I think Max is at the least amount of fault of the three, personally. He is the only one who actually makes a move to avoid an accident (when he steers slightly right after seeing Kimi... 0:49 on the video.

He could have avoided the whole thing if he had moved his foot down on the brake pedal.

He has more DNFs than Alonso this year.

Agree. Racing incident Vettel the root fault, Kimi's brilliance the root cause.

This, I think other more experienced drivers would have broke early. It's up to the people behind you to brake when you do, not your responsibility to make it easy on them and stay out of their way.

I think about it this way: One, maybe two cars can hold a line in a typical turn. When you see somebody else beating you to the corner entry, you don't attempt the line. When two people are beating you, you back down and take the line behind one of them. These guys are so much quicker and mentally responsive than us plebeians that anybody on that track would have been able to see both ferraris charging and make a decision. I think it's purely due to Max's inexperience that he stayed in it. He has phenomenal potential, of course, and I think he could be one of the greatest with some time and a reliable ride.

All in all though, I would still call it a racing incident, but just that it likely could have been avoided by max.
