I haven't seen the sector splits yet but it sounds like McLaren lost most of their time in S2 and S3. Isn't that where the great chassis should shine? Of course I guess maybe they could be trimming out the downforce since straight line speed is so important here...
I find it interesting that RB are showing speed trap numbers similar to McLaren (at least in FP3). I guess it means 1 of 3 things. McLaren are better at making less draggy downforce, The Renault PU isn't that much better than the Honda (both RB and McLaren were 6-7 kph off the highest top speed), or RB were sandbagging.
I probably shouldn't get my hopes up about Mclaren's current positions, right?
It is FP3 and conditions are far away from what they will be come Q1. That said this should be a track where they can do well. Honda said they found a manufacturing issue with a batch of the MGU-H shafts (not something they make) and have switched back to a previous specification.
I'll be curious to see sector times and speed trap figures from Q.

i think this is it (and RB has the engine turned down) and when you have less power this is what you do. i think the renault has more power and so that changes your aero design targets. by the end of qualifying you'll see how the extra power is used by the renault to generate a laptime difference. will be interesting to see speed trap numbers in qualy
If I were a gambling man – and I'm not – I'd be tempted to stick a few dollars down on Pierre Gasly topping the first day of 2018 pre-season testing in a Toro Rosso Honda. Fernando Alonso will be plum last for McLaren Renault, with three laps under his belt.
The McLaren Honda relationship has been doomed from the start. And McLaren must take its fair share of the blame for the circumstances around this catastrophe. It is no secret that Honda was rushed into its return to Formula 1 by the team with whom it enjoyed so much past success. Not only this, but the original concept and architecture which the Japanese firm wished to employ was shunned in favor of something far more restrictive, so adamant was McLaren over its "size zero" design concept. Honda persevered for two seasons before finally saying enough was enough. It had to revert to its original intentions if it was ever to make the progress it required to save face.
And so 2017 has been not year three of the project, but year one. The very real improvements, which have only recently started to become obvious, were the growing pains the company should have endured in 2015. Had it been granted the freedom to follow its own path it should, by now, have caught up.
There seems little doubt that Honda will be much improved in 2018. It is only a matter of time until they get things right. Next season will only be year two of this concept. There will still be issues. It will still lag behind in power and reliability. But it will get there. By 2019, it could be a force to be reckoned with.
Talk in the Formula 1 paddock is that the McLaren Honda divorce has not been cheap for Woking. The loss of the much-vaunted $100 million investment per annum is just one part of the hit the team will have to take. Chatter suggests it has cost McLaren tens of millions of dollars to convince Toro Rosso to take on a new engine supplier. Money which the Italian team can, and will, use to good effect.
All eyes will be on McLaren to see if they can make this new relationship work. Yet even more will be on Toro Rosso. For when Honda get it right, and they will get it right, the Japanese firm may yet form the basis of Red Bull's return to championship contention.
Man, Will seems convinced Honda will come good. I hope he's right but I wouldn't have the ***** to put those words in an article and publish it.
People only remember when you're right. Will is thinking like a champion.
I guess but to quote Tony "All I have in this world is my ***** and my word, and I don't break 'em for no one". Granted Will wouldn't be breaking his word but to me word=reputation.
That said maybe Will has some insider info. I had a feeling McLaren wasn't keen on keeping Honda even before the testing debacle and were hoping they could get their hands on a Merc PU. The new McLaren wants to get rid of just about everything Ron did.
Oh! Hello there!
I wandered onto the site in hopes of finding a D16 transmission for sale (#sadpanda). Started browsing around a bit looking at how things have changed....some things haven't. :D

I'm not sure if you know this, but people love his ***. The ones that don't are (typically) HAM fans. Oh and Webbah fans. All five of them.
I like Seb but I grow tired of some of the **** he pulls. Ramming into Ham case in point. The Charlie outburst last year is another one. That's the **** I'm talking about.

you people are boring. "I have a message to Charlie, **** off" was pure gold. ramming HAM? Also hilarious. Seb losing his temper is fun. Seb beating everyone's as 4 years straight is less fun. 2011 and 2013 were complete snoozers. were it not for **** luck 2012 would've been boring AF too.
Helpful hint: don't really give a **** and you won't be tired of petulant man-child sociopaths acting like petulant man-child sociopaths.
