The Official Formula 1 2017 Season Thread
So apparently Sainz hasn't been given to Renault, he's just a loaner. NM my Bob idea. Sainz will go back to RB when 1 of the 2 current RB drivers leave.
my kid looked at it for 10 minutes and asked a lot of questions. their heads are too big!!! why is that guy sitting on the beach? you can't ride a bull! nobody has yellow hair!

It's official. Now that Honda is free of Alonso's curse they will quickly surpass Renault and Ferrari to challenge Merc for best PU. I don't really expect this to happen but given the way things tied to Alonso have gone it wood not shock me.

Well this is interesting...
Porsche poised for Red Bull buyout? | Motor Sport Magazine
No sure I buy it (given the plethora of VW rumors in the past) but it makes sense on many levels given recent events. Wonder Honda would buy TR if they don't just give up on F1 in the next few years.
Porsche poised for Red Bull buyout? | Motor Sport Magazine
The rumours are gathering apace: Porsche is to enter Formula 1 from 2021, after purchasing the Red Bull team and making engines fitting to the new formula set to be introduced that year.
No one is yet confirming or denying. But it makes a lot of sense. Red Bull might consider that its F1 programme of the last decade has achieved its marketing aims and that it no longer needs the vast expense of running an F1 team (or even two of them). It could continue as a sponsor to the works Porsche team and benefit from that association, but without anything like the same current spend.

Hi guys! I'm alive and well and everything is all good at home, just a lot of downed branches and such. Storm was pretty tame, but that's because we got lucky that it moved further west. Loss power early Sunday morning and still haven't gotten it back. The pres of my job gave me brand new Honda generator so I do have a wall mounted AC unit going, along with a lamp and my fridge, so it's not all bad. FP&L is out here working damn hard, so I'm hoping I'll get power soon.
That Honda/Renault deal is pretty bananas. I think it will work out really well for Honda in the long run if they stick it out.

Glad you made it Hungry! Welcome back!

That's pretty impressive, picking up 109 HP with the same amount of fuel.
Of course that isn't with the same type of fuel, I wonder how much modifying the fuel cocktail has helped.

When F1's new turbo hybrid formula arrived in 2014, Mercedes engines had a conversion rate of 44% - and it has delivered gains since then too.
"Three and a half years after making its debut, the Mercedes-AMG F1 power unit has now achieved a conversion efficiency of more than 50 percent during dyno testing in Brixworth.
"In other words, it now produces more power than waste energy - a remarkable milestone for any hybrid, and especially a flat-out racing engine. Compared to 2014, the power output is 109 horsepower greater using the same amount of fuel."
