Probably a bit outside of their strike zone.

if you extrapolate (lower) the trajectory of their latest launches they've already got the west coast in range

We have countermeasures in place. I don't feel threatened in the least.

Well bluu you also can get strong tornados up your way. F4 or F5 will ruin your day and next several weeks/months.

I wonder how well Irma will do if it does indeed hang a hard right like the guidance has been suggesting for days. It seems like when the storms make a hard turn they get pulled apart and the circulation ends up disrupted. Doesn't mean it will happen this time, but I've seen it happen with other storms.

Is erryone else having issues uploading images? I get to 99% then it says image corrupted.

i had some luck with uploading an image but not using the image URL thing, that is totally broke for me.

*puts on armchair meteorologist hat* i think one big factor hurricane intensity is vertical shear. if low/mid/upper level environment is the same then it can turn without getting ripped. but the trough that is going to kick it north will disrupt the outflow somewhat regardless. still gonna be a cat 3 at least with those warm temps. family is near hungry right in the NHC bullseye at least until the forecast changes again overnight

edit - pretty nice looking double eyewall on puerto rico radar now

Flew over Colorado and thought there were fires there. Turns out the smoke I saw was from Oregon fires that made its way to Colorado.

Ate a Gearbox Melt to remind myself how overrated it is. Mine came with carcinogens on the edge of the burger patty. :/

Sorry bluuu you're too far.

The storms I'm speaking of did not have a lot of shear at any level. I think the sharp curve causes some of the mid level vorticity to continue traveling in the direction the storm was headed before the sharp turn. Momentum and such. Isabel in '03 was a perfect example. It made the turn (at wasn't even as sharp as others) and never got its mojo back.

One of the ITR guys at the ITR Expo worked for BAR I think 2003-2006. He brought some F1 stuff including a wheel from Rubens Barrichello's 2006 Australian GP race car, the head of a socket used for changing wheels during pitstops, a practice wheel nut, some tyre clag, his credential collection, and Jenson Button's burned carbon fiber exhaust shroud from his 2006 Australian GP fire. The bare wheel seems like the same weight as a heavy dinner plate. That's how light it is.

Map is missing the parts of the country in range of North Korea's nukes...unless North Korea's nukes can't go that far.

parents have no plans to evacuate. at first i was like wtf then they reminded me: concrete block construction with good hurricane shutters and they are out of storm surge zones. rest of family can shack up there if needed.

Where dey at?

Now for something completely different/idiotic:

https://www.motorsport.com/f1/news/h...jersey-950297/

FIA president Jean Todt has backed the idea of Formula 1 introducing a ‘yellow jersey’ model, which would give the world championship leader a different colour Halo cockpit protection device from other drivers.
It already looks hideous, lets make it look even worse. Jesus. And I thought it would be good having him running the FIA.

yeah we have friends in san juan, sounds like it was a good ride but the worst stayed offshore.

sounds like the island St. Marteen with my favorite airport runway/beach is 70-90% gone

my family is spread between west palm and ft. lauderdale.

Friend of mine has vacation planned in St Martin in Dec. Said he got an email telling him it will be a month or more until the island can receive visitors again.

Continued westward drift of the guidance not good for west palm and lauderdale.
