Default Valve Cover Gasket Replacement

I'm about to change out my valve cover gasket on a 95 LS and would like to make sure I'm replacing everything I should. I have oil leaking all around the valve cover so I would like to replace every seal while I'm in there.

So far my list consists of Billet cam seal, Valve cover gasket w/ spark plug gaskets, & the seal for the distributor.

Anything else you guys would replace if you were doing this job?

don't forget the rubber grommets underneath the closed cap nuts/washer. If you're mechanically inclined, adjust the valve lash clearance.

I know how to do most mechanical things but nothing with motor internals. Also, can you please elaborate on these rubber grommets? I'm not sure which ones you are referring to.

The rubber grommets he mentioned are #22 and #23 respectively in the diagrams above. If you're buying a vcg kit, they should come in the kit along with the spark plug gaskets.

Also don't forget hondabond/permatex

Thanks! I didn't know about replacing those.

I can use Grey RTV instead of Hondabond correct?

If it's high temp & oil resistant it'll be fine. If you havent, change out the distributor O-ring as well.

Don't forget to put a little RTV on the points where there is a 90 degree angle, when you re-install. Just a very small amount in those little corners is worth while.
I made a pic for ya!

Thanks for the info! I should put some all around the cam seal as well correct?

Anyone happen to know the torque specs? I believe it is 7 like the oil pan gasket?

You should download the service manual for this and all future projects. It really comes in handy.

Yes, this is a common source of oil leaking.
