I'll throw some tech in here. Why would anyone think hanging stuff from their ignition is a good idea? The extra weight will wear the internals and cause some real fun stuff.
I have used quick release connectors and keep the lightest part on ignition key ring

 

I highly doubt a fob, a pleather picture wallet that weighs less than a fob and a shopping cart coin the weight of decent quality key ring is going to put substantial strain on the ignition......

Now if it was my house key ring..... That has some weight to it.

 

Wasn't directed at you, just in general. You would be amazed at the stuff people put on so they can find their keys

 

Or just have on their keys period.... I hear ya.... I've seen some pretty laden keys.

Alarm, car key and house key. Toss in a a ninja turtle and I'm set.

 

Guess it depends on what car I'm driving that day.
