Yeah I think it's unique. I can understand wanting to change it if VJ has been told by potential sponsors the name is keeping them away. Or maybe that was a condition of the new pink nightmare sponsorship. Maybe BWT is trying to corner the water purification market in Pakistan...

 

Agreed and I'm glad the team told him no. I personally think that's kinda shitty/shady especially coming from someone who labels himself as a real racer.

Part of it is there is only so much outrage in F1 and right now it's all focused on Vettel lol.

 

I think it was a fair inquiry and the difference is Ferrari would do it automatically without the #1 driver asking if the #2 driver didn't have a chance to move up a position on the podium.

 

I agree and I would say the same thing if it was Ferrari or RB or McHonda. I just don't like those kind of games. I don't even like it when teammates are told to allow the other car past. An exception I can at least stomach is if the front car has an issue or the trailing car is on a different strategy, but even then I think the trailing car should earn it. I realize its part of F1, doesn't mean I have to like it.

I think the thing here though is that HAM has stated in the past he doesn't like or need to use team orders.

 

Eh. I think in this case Lewis was in full-"Fck Vettel. Fck Ferrari. Fck the FIA as a staff, racing body and as a motherfcking crew. And if you want to be down with Vettel, fck you too," sort of mode. This would align with that.

 

I can see that. He was probably thinking Fck Merc too. They cost him that win. If he loses the title I hope it isn't by the same amount of points he just lost.

 

Context is important. Team orders = letting a one driver past when both cars are on same strategy. Other teams do this explicitly.

Merc hasn't had to do it when it's just their two drivers racing against each other for the WDC. Mclaren didn't do it explicitly that I can recall.

In this case he was asking if BOT could back into VET, not asking the team to have BOT slow down so he can pass both.

He has asked to pass teammates when he was on different strategies in the past. He's also ignored team requests to let teammates past.
