This is a Harrier pic I took a few years ago. The visible smoke is the result of water being added to the airflow in the engine. The water keeps the turbine blades from exceeding acceptable heat levels and allows the engine to produce extra thrust for takeoff without the turbine blades failing from being too hot.
It's an AH-1W Super Cobra aka Whiskey Cobra. They have the Zulu Cobra/Viper style "turned exhaust". Supposedly helps reduce the heat signature as well as engine compartment and tail boom temps.
They will do short take offs and landings here but I have never seen them go VTOL. I wonder if it would beat up the surfaces so that's why they don't or maybe it's harder on the equipment/moar dangerous to do VTOL
The harriers usually hang out for the weekend and sometimes several moar will join the ones that arrive on Fri. I'll keep the camera handy and hope I get some better shots.
Yeah I'm getting tired of that ****. Especially the celebrating winning the pole b4 erryone has finished their hot laps. These regs suck. Cannot wait to get rid of them.
I realize this year has so far been better but we are all waiting for the shoe to drop and Merc to suddenly have a 1 sec advantage on erryone all the time.
So is RIC not p much the luckiest driver this season (so far)?
SEB was a dumbass but I don't think HAM is free of any blame there. That move he pulled was iffy at best. Right after the apex you could see his car slowed. I don't think he hit the brakes but he def got off the throttle. If he was slowing at that point during each of the previous SC laps then I have a lot less issue with what HAM did (I don't know if what he did was his normal). If not then he has a tiny amount of blame in this. But WTF was SEB thinking. He's lucky he only got 10 seconds.
I wonder how pissed Verstappen is right now. He could have won this race by a huge margain.
The Vettel move was stupid and agree that he was lucky to only get 10 second stop/go on that one. Doing stuff like that behind a safety car is always going to be punished harshly and he could have ruined both of their races.
I don't understand the constant use of the safety car instead of vsc during this race. Debris on track should not be a safety car, at most circuits it's not even a local yellow.
Congrats to Force India for finding another way to throw away a sure podium. First points for McLaren too although they need a few more to get out of 10th.
