Just got a white NSX yesterday. A high school classmate that has the hots for me bought it. I'm only familiar with Tyco 9.6 RC cars so hopefully I can figure this one out.
tesla just let go their head of self-driving software development after 6 months and replaced him with another golden boy. the word on the street is that tesla's sensor system is at it's limit of what it can do with radar and cameras and they need LIDAR like everyone else uses to make further progress. but you're right none of this matters when buying something new and trendy is a social statement. all aboard the hype train!
But Tesla is the only company with autopilot!
I've heard the same regarding their sensor technology but I'm pretty far removed from our autonomous stuff so I am not an expert on why.
I actually like Elon/Tesla but Wall Street is full of idiots and their valuation is ridiculous. TSLA's market cap is larger than GM, Honda, Ford, FCA, and probably some other companies I have forgotten. Many of these companies sell more cars in a day than Tesla did last year and they actually turn a profit doing it. Then you add in Tesla's poor track record of execution going into a make or break model launch. **** is priced beyond perfection and there is nothing in their history to say they'll even hit mediocre.
2013 & 2014 were not exactly banner years at McMerc.
Yeah but there is always some ebb and flow to the top 3-4 teams and in 2014 Merc was not helping them out. The loss of the works status hurt them moar than anything else prior to teaming up with Honda. I still think pressuring Honda to start a year earlier than they wanted to is one of the biggest issues. If Honda hadn't joined until 2016 they might be in a better place today. Then again with the rumored culture of continue developing until it's too late at Honda they may still have ended up FUBAR.
With these cars driver's can make some difference (more so in 2017 and beyond) but the car/chassis/PU development is much more important and loosing the money associated with the loss of works status in 2010 is what ultimately lead to their demise in 2013-2014 moar than losing a driver.
