I sure hope he's right
When asked if Mercedes was in a league apart again, Steiner said: "No, I think Ferrari is pretty good as well. I don't think Ferrari is far behind Mercedes this year. It's very encouraging what Ferrari is putting out there."

must have been sandbagging the day before...
Does that mean Lance Stroll is trolling us.

King Stroll's latest crash may have damaged the car too much for Williams to test on Thursday. At least we know he's finding the limit and not sandbagging.
Couple things about the McHonda. Today was more like day 1 for them. They were finally able to do some aero runs and work on learning the car/tyre. While it's not totally like day 1 for them in terms of running the car it was with respect to the testing program. The oil tank has the temporary baffle in it so Fred was lifting and coasting at times too (track side reports said the McHonda was derating 600m before turn 1)
Add in the fact that this PU, with the problem baffles in the oil tank, is not the Melbourne spec PU. I think the car has the potential to be further up the grid than it was last year, I just have a lot less faith in the PU being able to stay together for a race distance (or 5 race distances to be exact) right now.

"Alonso couldn't get hard on the throttle out of Turn 2 - the car just starts moving - and I never saw him go into Turn 3 flat on the throttle.
"He's either having to lift big time beforehand, or just as he's coming into the corner. It's not understeer, just a lack of grip.
"McLaren can't really complain about Honda's engine, because there are still horses left in there that they're not using at the minute. It looks OK on the very softest tyres, but on softs and mediums - the most relevant tyres for this track - it's just not there."

Hasegawa : “The past two days have been difficult for us due to the power unit issues we encountered. However, today we were able to make some progress and complete our programme, in which we tested the durability and deployment of the PU in accordance with our schedule.
“We have already found a solution to the oil tank issue we had on the first day with Fernando, and we will shortly receive clarification from Honda R&D in Sakura on the root cause of the power failure experienced in Stoffel’s car yesterday. We proved certain durability in today’s session and we hope to make further advances together with McLaren tomorrow.”
