F1 W08 EQ Power+

"It is so exciting to see this thing come together," said Hamilton as he and new teammate Valtteri Bottas revealed the car. "Driving today, naturally the car feels wider, which it is, and the front tyres feel huge. There is quite a lot of grip already even in the cold conditions here."

LOL

I wonder who told him. Was it a bum, a rabid fan, a Renault rep? Maybe Seb told him to f**k off, it's orange and white... Maybe Ron Dennis leaked it

They switched wheel suppliers. I wonder why? So far Merc has the best looking car.

I think the Renault mock up car looks best so far. But combined with the overalls I guess the Merc acronym ver8 is the best.

At the very least limit them to a reasonable number...like 2

When asked about whether the rules of engagement would change given the new line-up, Wolff said: "That is an internal paper that has grown over years with experience and when you look at Abu Dhabi, it proved to have blank spots.

"The basic concept will stay in place but we are maybe going to call it differently, trim it a little and add the bits that were missing but not make it a complex internal regulation. We'll have to see how the season gets started. "It might be completely different in terms of the dynamics between the drivers, it might be different in terms of dynamics with the other teams."

so basically they are saying we aren't sure if Bottas is gonna knock Hamilton of track just yet to let you know if we will be giving any team orders that may or may not be followed by Hamiliton.

I'm curious to see if BOT can stay close enough to HAM to even attempt such a thing.

So the Merc has no fin/sail and is not thumbing its nose. Is it that Merc noes something else or will the fin appear during testing? Is the T wing legal (still trying to figure out if there is a loop hole due to the increased car length) or is it a ruse to make the teams look at it instead of something else? Could Merc be trying to simulate something that will appear on the car later?

The T-wing will get regulated out of existence if enough people complain. Like that guy who forced a store to stop selling a Walking Dead T-shirt because he complained it was racialist.

t-wing is a science project won't be on the car in race trim. might even have sensors connected to it. they're going to test a shark fin also, probably is related.

2/26 doe

When asked by Motorsport.com about its plans for the new car, engineering director Aldo Costa said the T-wing was one idea being looked at, but that a normal shark fin would also be evaluated during Barcelona testing.

"We have seen many pictures of other cars, but from now until the first race we will have a continuous programme of evolution," he said. "As you have seen, the launch spec was without the little T-wing, and then we tested it – and then we will carry on in Barcelona day by day testing different configurations. We will have as well a longer tail configuration to be tested in combination with new rear wings for Melbourne."

Was this already discussed?

Mercedes has made 'unprecedented' step with engine

When asked if Force India expected even more power from its Mercedes engine this year, technical chief Andy Green said: "Oh yes. That's what we've been promised. "It's all part of the data input that goes into our simulation data. It's part of it. Mercedes HPP has done a fantastic job over the winter and made another unprecedented step and it's impressive."

That's why I hated the argument(s) against the token system. What was to stop Merc from advancing its own concepts further? Nothing. The Honda will still be ****, the Ferrari and Renault much better than before, but still not up too par with the Merc.

If you want engine parity, legislate it into existence.

Part of the problem (no fault of Merc in fact good on them) was that Merc was ahead of the curve and helped shaped the regs, to their advantage. Again, good on them. It sucks for competition...

I still think that there will be diminishing returns and allowing for moar open regs will allow the other manufacturers to close up. Only in Nov will we have an idea if opening up the regs was a good idea or not. To me it's better than what we had. At least now if the other teams are crushed by Merc it wasn't because their hands were tied by a shitty design and they have the chance to fix the glitch.

Renault engine fails after six laps at Toro Rosso filming day - F1Today.net

During a Toro Rosso filming day, running for the STR12 was hampered by a persistent ERS problem. The car only managed six laps at the Misano circuit, and the mechanics of the development team of Red Bull were not able to get the car running again, sources inside the Italian team told F1Today.net.

Toro Rosso will present the STR12 on Sunday, February 26th. The Italian squad will race with engine supplier Renault after a year with old specification Ferrari engines. The French manufacturer has gone for a different approach in 2017 to the power unit. Motor boss Remi Taffin previously revealed that the new power unit would be 95 percent different than the previous spec. The new V6 turbo would supposedly gain three tenths per lap. Renault director Cyril Abiteboul however also announced that the French brand's first focus would be on the reliability. Reliability was not on the side of Toro Rosso during the filming day as the Red Bull junior team came nowhere near the allowed 100 kilometers.

Toro Rosso will drive in 2017 the same power unit as big brother Red Bull Racing, with both teams carrying Renault units. Spokeswoman Tabatha Valls responded to our editorial staff: "Sorry, we never go into situations of film days."
How's that 95% difference with focus on reliability working out...
