Looking for some help finding out what this motor is.
So I purchased this motor from a company in California and I was told it was a B18C jdm gsr motor. Now I know that it is a gsr, because it has the gsr intake and the p72 stamp on the head. But as I look at this picture it seems that there may have been a two where it's been shaved away or some other number. The problem is I payed the money for a jdm with 50,000 miles or under not a B18C1 from the US sold as a jdm or B18C2 from NZ or AUS and sold as a B18C. I payed $1,900 for a jdm motor not for a mistery Millage so called jdm motor. The serial number is visible but I can't find anything online to help identify the origins of the motor. I've came up with many scenarios on why this was shaved. Maybe someone could shed some light or give me your opinion on the mystery number. Thanks HT

It is a legit company as far as I know, I'm waiting till Monday to call them about it. But the problem is I'm new to honda and I have already put the motor into the engine bay. I didn't know to check the stamp on the block before installing. I have a lawyer if things go sour. The website said B18C jdm motor and the invoice I received said B18C gsr longblock, which it is. It's just the mileage I'm unsure of.

thats kinda what I was thinking too. But do they typically come with low mileage like the jdm versions is really what I'm worried about. The motor is clean otherwise indicating that it may have low miles. I know that you never really know how many exact miles are on any givin engine, but I just want to make sure that it has somewhat low miles for the price I payed.

They can. Doesn't mean that you necessarily got ripped off. Any good long block GS-R is getting rare anyway, so I see nothing wrong with picking it up. Remember, the last one made was in 2001, over 16 years ago. If you're expecting an engine that is used in which someone drove the car to average around 3,125 miles/year, your expectation is extremely unrealistic.
You wait too long messing around, and someone else will get it knowing that reality anyway. So get it, compression test it once it's done and keep on moving. There are no guarantees in the life of a 16-22 year old swap.

i did buy already, and compression is where it should be. I just saw a red flag when I seen that number scratched away. thought it was from the Japanese market. But it is in fact a gsr that's no question. Noticed the scratch after I put the motor in and was hooking back up the slave cylinder. Thanks for you help on this.
