The Official Formula 1 2017 Season Thread
Orange McMerc is best McMerc.
I want Dale Jr to pull a Nico in 2017. 2017-2020 will be butt, but a Dale Jr championship could make it livable :p
He'd be a GREAT commentator too. The combination of him & Jeff Gordon in the broadcast booth would 100% be enough to get me back to a full-time viewer of NASCAR.

To me, there's no doubt about it that Johnson/Knaus combo is the best evar. The level of competition these days is impossibly strong, and they've blasted erryone.
JJ = GOAT meow. Undisputed.

Also nice little pad there blue bby. I'm currently in a downsized house compared to my FL place, and it aint bad at all. Only wish the garage was bigger/wider. That would do nicely.
Also did you ditch IG?
No juander I can't find you no mo.
If it don't, no sweat. Lots of other places will surely give you the same problems as this one. home ownership = nickle and dimed to death. But at least its yours.

If you roll back the chase through history it's pretty interesting.
Petty wins 7 either way. Earnhardt has 7 and 5 while JJ has 3 and 7.
I'm standing by my argument that different eras cannot be compared. The tyres were totally different bias vs radial, safety is leaps and bounds better so the ballsy quotient is decreased. The fitness levels for all the drivers are through the roof now while back in the day everyone was nursing a hangover before getting carbon monoxide poisoning all afternoon. Also the tracks now aren't as diverse as they used to be. They couldn't drive the cars hard for 400 or 500 miles, drivers had to pick their moments. Now it's ***** out 99.9% of the race. Again I'm not saying Jimmie isn't a great driver and Chad isn't an amazing crew chief. They are the best of their era I just feel the feats cannot be compared. Like comparing MLB pitchers before and after the mound was raised. You can do it but it's pointless.

Except if you don't change the points after 2003 the results are:

In sum, I'm never wrong.
I'm going to hope you end up getting the perfect situation, whatever that may be. If it's this house awesome but as Esty said, if it isn't you'll find something even better.
I'm standing by the level of competition being greater now than it was during Petty/DE days, and the finest margins puts JJ over the top more than anyone else. For example, if Petty was the only dude eating right and not being a vagrant, doesn't that make it easier to win? Me thinks so.
In sum, I'm never wrong.

Except Petty raced post Monkey era. I understand what you are saying, the drivers now have the best equipment, best training, best fitness, best everything (including telemetry). What I'm saying is the drivers back in the day didn't have these advantages. They had to work on their own cars, set their own cars up, do all the stuff drivers now don't have to think about. There is no telling if Petty or Earnhardt Sr would be better than JJ if they had all of these advantages or maybe JJ's natural talent is such that he would have won the championship every year if he had raced in Petty's era or Dale's era. However, we'll never know and because of this I don't think they can be compared. I totally agree that today's competition is tougher but that doesn't help us answer who has/had more natural talent. Does that make sense?
GOAT of this era, agreed.
Also like to add the abundance of cookie cutter 1.5 ovals in the chase helped the Hendrick cars and JJ in particular during his run of 5 in a row. Chad had an amazing setup for those tracks with those old cars.

Tough part with the Chase format & comparing back is that we can't know how the teams would change how they approached the middle of the season. Once JJ knew the Chase was a certainty, the team could focus on trying new things in preparation for the Chase, rather than getting every last point at every race.
I think we all agree JJ is mega super cowboy usa NASCAR driver of this era. No doubt. Chad is pretty badass too...
i hope lance has deep pockets because driving and engineering talent is nothing without cash in today's f1
i mean how many martini's would you have to drink to see Williams WCC?

I don't know if this particular move hurts Merc but it makes me wonder if there are internal power struggles starting to develop and if that won't lead to more people leaving which will gradually weaken them.
