While Michael Schumacher continues to recover from the 2013 head injury that left him in a coma his son Mick has been making waves in Formula 4.
Ecclestone is eager to cash in on the Schumacher name to give F1 a much needed boost.
“If he is anywhere near as good as his father, why not?” Ecclestone said in an interview with German newspaper Bild.
“It would be good for Formula 1 if the name Schumacher were represented again.”
Having spent his early career racing under his mother’s maiden name Mick is now ready to step up and take over the mantle from his father.
“I want to be an F1 world champion, like every driver,” Schumacher said.
“F3 is the next step for me and I can hardly wait.
“2017 will certainly be a challenge, but the tests in the past few weeks have shown that the car is great fun to drive.
“This is the category that all the big names have come through.
“From the point of view of professionalism, it’s a bit closer to F1 and a bit more difficult.”
Mick Schumacher will drive for the Prema Powerteam in Formula 3 in 2017.

Stroll has been given access to the Williams test team at several GP circuits around the globe doe. The young Schu is going legit. The 2nd gen drivers never had the same fire I think, (Max may be the exclusion, but Jos was more like Minimum Verstappen) but what else are they going to do? No sense wasting that springboard to F1, ya know?

Also was looking at F1 stuff from 2001 and 2002. I forgot just how dominant the combination of the F2002 and Schumi in 2002 was.

2001 update Jarno's Jordan just blew up. Was Trulli impressive. Lots of nice flame and I'm sure a ton of parts left on the street of the Principality.

Analysis: Barcelona simulation data points to impact of F1 car changes
80% Full throttle! Of course in the race there will be fuel saving, but still...
For example, early indications suggest that Turn 3 at Barcelona will be at least 30 km/h faster this year – turning it into a flat-out turn that will test drivers as their neck muscles are challenged by lateral loads higher than 5G.
According to an engineer, who did not wish his team to be identified, F1's engines will be at full throttle for 70 percent of the lap of Barcelona, whereas last year they were at the limit for only 50 percent.
At the high-speed Monza, simulation data from Magneti Marelli said that 2016 witnessed full throttle for 69 percent of the lap, whereas this year it could be as high as 80 percent.
