World champion Nico Rosberg has announced he has retired from Formula 1 with immediate effect.
The 31-year-old German won his first world title on Sunday, beating Mercedes team-mate Lewis Hamilton by finishing second in the final race in Abu Dhabi.
"I have climbed my mountain, I am on the peak, so this feels right," Rosberg said in a Facebook post.
Rosberg won nine of this season's 21 grands prix, beating three-time champion Hamilton by five points.
BTW, Alonso is not going to Merc. They don't need another WDC in the car in order to win the title. Hamilton needs a little puss in the car next to him.
I thought the same thing. Was totally expecting the first link to be a rick roll...
Nico cited all the sacrifices and commitments he made this year... maybe he should have been partying with strippers and Justin Beiber between races to relax.
Prost, Schumacher, Mansell and Lauda all came back. I just have a hunch that after a few weeks off he's going to realize that he's too young (and too talented) to walk away just yet.
I do kinda feel bad for the guy. He beat Schumacher for 3 years in a row and finally got the better of Lewis and nobody gives the guy any credit. It should be a great underdog story, but instead he's labeled as undeserving and that Hamilton would have won if his engine didn't die Malaysia - which ins't exactly true. Hamilton would have won if he didn't DNF in Malaysia and Rosberg didn't take 9 wins.

underdog stories are only worthwhile if the protagonist is likeable.
Rosberg's announcement he is retiring from the sport with immediate effect within a week of winning his maiden world title has caught the F1 world by complete surprise.
But Hamilton, who has known Rosberg since they were teenagers, says he is not stunned by the news.
Attending the same FIA prizegiving gala at which Rosberg announced he is retiring, Hamilton was quoted by Reuters as saying: "This is the first time he's won in 18 years, hence why it was not a surprise that he decided to stop.
(not exactly true - Nico won the 2005 GP2 title on 5 wins a year before Lewis won the GP2 title, also with 5 wins)
