** The offical 96-00 civic 4dr thread ** PART 3
Morimoto has some newer stuff with (typical) big promises. I'd like to see some actual demo pics. Unfortunately it's pretty hard to change the light source without changing the optics and expect a good result. It's just not really meant to work that way. I'm mostly surprised no one has done a proper LED retrofit projector yet. Seems like the market is ripe.

^Cobb, if you're interested, I am selling my set of Bixenon Retrofits for the EL. Set-up is E55 BiXenons, swapped out with a Clear Lens, E46 Shrouds, Blacked out housing, new Paint protection Film, professionally installed. Let me know.
Thanks for the offer, but for me, part of it is actually being the one responsible for the finished product. I'm more of a journey and stress guy than I am a finish and relax guy.
Looks like i'll be trying something different than my original plans. I'm gonna end up swapping to a D2H bulb and ignitors which will relocate the ignitor inline, and not mounted on the bulb. This will buy me a couple of inches and get the clearance I need on the headlight housing, while still keeping my HID system and not stepping down to LED. So...we'll see.
All this retrofit talk. How hard is it to do on a set of oem headlights? I've wanted to do the sedan HL's but I'm pretty apprehensive to do them myself.
here are some pics of my sedan from monday night.

Then yesterday evening, bored at the shop, I decided to go full rice :D

They have kits that allow your minimize the amt of modifying needed to fit the projector. Thats what Cobb has done. The morimoto d2s kit seems to be a good start but I suggest, if possible, you locate oem d2s ballast. You can use the wiring harness they give you to get the bixenon's high beam function working.
The kit I have is a Mori Mini D2S. I really just need to figure out what headlights I want to run and get it done while I'm still off-season.
Joel, if you're feelin' the itch your timing couldn't be better. TRS does a big Black Friday sale every year. I'm pretty sure I paid half price for my kit.

Since both of you guys have the same front end, for the most part (assuming Adam's setup is for an EK and not his EG), it might be cool to just do a mini get together and use one core support, and just assembly line the retrofits.

The mini D2S is what I got, but as mentioned I just ordered D2H Bulbs and Ignitors. Joel, I can donate my old bulbs and ignitors to a good cause. All you'd need to do is source ballasts, projectors, and a harness, but it's not that much of a savings. HAHA. At least i'll have spare parts for both you guys.

Me too...that's why I do stuff like this. One of my projectors is clocked ever so slightly, and while it bugs me, I'm not pissed because I know it was my first attempt. I have a slight vibration on the other projector, and again...not mad, because again...it was a learning experience. That is why i'm changing around bulbs, and learning as I go. One day I'll pull my driver's side apart again clock the projector, but...i'll probably actually rebuild them entirely with Canadian housings. Take your time, and figure out what you really want. Also keep in mind that not a single reflective surface is used from the OEM housings, so you can paint, or tint, or do whatever you want while you're in there.
I'd be down for that. Time to sort out some housings!!
i figured I'd just come up here one night after work and use the big oven in the build shop to open up the new lights. It was a lot better than a kitchen one when I did my LED retro on the Fit last year.
Only other thing i need need to sort out is harness routing. I might play around with that this weekend.

As for harness routing, I followed the horn harness under the top of the core support for the crossover portion. I still need to mount the relay, because I'm lazy, but now I am going to wait until the new bulbs and ignitors show up. I drilled and tapped the frame rails behind the core support and mounted the ballasts there, since they're weather proof(ish) and then ran the wiring through the holes in the engine bay for the washer bottle and the intake resonator, since my car has neither.

And another ALSO...I've got a brand new thing of black sealant from TRS which I never used because the sealant on mine is grey...and I didn't notice until after. So...I can donate that to the cause if any of you guys need the black.

Did I just hear you nominate your work for the assembly line?!?! hahahahaha

I definitely need to start my reading tonight after the kids go to sleep. This "harness" sounds important, wiring and I don't get along to often.
All I hear is Stevie Wonder playing in my head when I see those bars. "isn't she lovely/isn't she beautiful."
