Sainz says penalty for forcing Alonso off track was 'harsh' - F1 - Autosport
Sainz was penalised five seconds for moving across on fellow Spaniard Alonso as they exited Turn 3 on the opening lap, forcing the McLaren driver onto the grass, which nearly caused him to spin.
I suppose part of the problem is the revolving stewards door. Maybe they need to pick a group of stewards and use them for the entire season.

Elf/Total involvement in F1 has not been continuous sine the late 60s but it seems that every time there has been a Renault factory team Elf/Total has been the fuel/lubricants.

I have another reason for wanting ROS to win the WDC. Lots of people gonna blow a gasket. Over on F1T the race threads have become HAM fan boys vs Anti HAM fan boys. Recently 1 post going off on ROS mentions all the HAM DNFs. Ok fair point but then the poster goes on to argue that the poor starts were not HAM's fault. Really? He can't figure out the clutch and ROS can so who's fault is it? Toto? Lauda? Give me a break.
I wonder what the mechanical DNF stats of HAM vs ROS from the time they have been together at Merc are.

ROS
Australia 2013 - Electrical
Hungary 2013 - Engine
Britain 2014 - Gearbox
Singapore 2014 - Electrical
Abu Dhabi 2014 - ERS (he finished but out of points)
Italy 2015 - Engine
Russia 2015 - Throttle
HAM
Australia 2014 - Engine
Canada 2014 - Brakes
Singapore 2015 - Engine
Malaysia 2016 - Engine
Now that does not take into account incompetent boobery pre race (in other words a lot of HAM's issues this year have compromised his race in qualifying). Nor does it take into account crashes that may or may not have been the driver's fault. I was only looking for things that are most likely out of the driver's hands. What it tells me is 1 team in the Merc stable seems to be affected by issues (even back to the days with MSchu). Again it's a quick look at one parameter, interpret the results in whatever fashion you please.

Anyone else not looking forward to the 2017 cars? I am used to the current ones...and I hate the slanted rear wing crap...reminds me of A1GP.

I think overall they are going to look better than what we have now. Yeah I don't like the slanted RWEP or the swept FW but the wider tyres and moar open PU regs...bring it. I'm a little less enthused for the areo increase, though still positive about it. As for the more aero means less overtaking arguement...there wasn't an overtake in the last 10 laps between VES/VET/RIC and yet that was very exciting. Overtaking =/ excitement.
the whole formula needs to be turned upside down so that lead cars can't just get clear and turn the engine down like yesterday.
this would be a piece of cake with active wings and less dependence on diffusers...but that would threaten the top team's domination so we can't innovate unless it consolidates their position.

I still think they need to add success ballast, add X kg for each point you score and you carry it for x races. Would make the races SO much more exciting to watch...
At least with aero teams can continue to develop it (I realize the lesser funded teams do get shafted) as opposed to the PU regs now where Merc's advantage is locked in. How I really wish the FIA would fix the wealth distribution system which somewhat would lessen the burden on the smaller teams.
