hey guys new to hondatech, but a very avid honda enthusiast. Recently picked up this gem for a steal for the sole purpose as a daily driver as i didn't want to put too many miles on my 2016 Civic EX-T that i recently just purchased. but now i have turned this into a full restoration project in keeping to the original beauty of this car.
The car itself is actually really in good condition for a 20 year old car. No rust, no accidents, all original parts with VIN to match. Only thing wrong is the motor wasnt really well kept up with and the exterior and interior needs a good detailing and conditioning with the expection of me hunting down i few parts to replace the worn and broken pieces in the interior.

A new front bumper and good will clean her lines up. I've only had her for about a year and haven't started working on anything cosmetic yet. She will be black, I'm thinking with a raked stance but otherwise unassuming. Think sleeper but not super souped. I want to widen the exaust and install a duel system with an X crossflow, and I dream of ceramic lined, tuned headers. On the intake, cold air system of course. I also plan on ceramic coated pistons sitting on H-beam connecting rods, shaved and balanced counterweight on the crankshaft, beveled ports and as long as I'm wishing, I'll dream of installing vtec. Also, if there's a timing gear option to replace the belt, I want that too. That should be enough added hp increase to justify the planned rake. H bean connecting rods should protect against granny shifting if I ever decide to loan it out.
97 accord. Hit a deer going about 60mph.. Got a hood from the junk yard for $35. Still needs a little work to be road worthy again but I think she can be brought back! Can't wait to drive it again. Has all New tires, front rotors, pads, wheel bearings, replaced a cv axle.. Catback exhaust... Needs power steering pump and a headlight haha
Well it still needs a little work to straighten it out, if you look at the headlight on the driver side, it doesnt quite line up with everything. But getting closer to done!
Here is the past and my first three months of my import and honda development. Commin along. Lotts of work. When im done. It will truly be built not bought. 224K, no sludge, no oil burning. I'm going over it now to make sure it's well sorted. Runs and drives great.

Its in for a new exhaust at the weekend as the wholes system is junk and leaking (the tailpipes are just bolted on to the stock system, they may return, but slightly shorter )

Coming from a different place than most of you. I have zero desire for a go-fast toy. I am not into bling (or whatever it is being called these days). I am 52 and the wife is 49. We both are professional musicians and we drive over 35,000 miles a year EACH.
We own six vehicles, all with high mileage.
My 2001 Accord was hitting the 250,000 mile wall where everything starts to die on you at the same time. We decided we would sink a ton of money into the car to avoid taking on a new car note. This 2001 Value Package is bone stock and has *no* amenities. It is, in a word: dull. However, it was abused and neglected (sort of) by us for years and it never crapped out on us. Of all the Accords we have owned over the decades (six, I think) this has been the most reliable over the long haul. (Our 2015 looks like it might end up being in that category, too. The 2010 is not in the same league as the 2001, though. It is a disappointment that we are going to sell off.)
So in late 2011 the cycle of dying parts started in earnest with the radiator blowing out on us while on the road in the middle of nowhere. Shortly after that some other old stuff took a dump. Then the tranny went out. We got all that fixed so we could sell it. We got a used 2010 in 2012 (off-lease car, I think) and loved it. For awhile. Then the problems started and we decided to not sell the 2001 just then. We fixed it up. Eventually, in late 2012 we had it repainted. I drove it the most, so I picked the color. My wife wanted the original silver, but I decided to change it to Blue Dyno Pearl 2 off the 2012 Civic. It came out great!
When the 2010 started to have all the typical 2010 issues (VTC Actuator, bad rings, dying door lock actuators, etc.) we picked up a 2015 LX, which is the nicest car I have ever owned. The I did all the work to the 2010 that was needed, except for the rings. Honda supposedly has a new engine for me, but I cannot seem to get it. Anyway...
When the 2010 became mine and the wife took the 2015 the 2001 got permanently rolled back to "back-up car" and eventually it ended up parked for nearly four years.
I hit a deer in the 2015 recently and lost it to the body shop for three weeks. In that time I needed to resurrect the 2001. (That's why we still have it, after all.) Many lessons were learned regarding the STUPIDITY of not driving the backup car on a regular basis with a minimum number of miles in order to keep it from rotting away. It was a freaking mess. A mouse had taken up residence in the air box, eventually chewing a neat hole through the filter and moving into the air tube at the throttle body. He filled that area with poop, pee and tons of pecan shells and such. I did not know this, so, of course, at first startup that was all sucked into the engine.
It ran like garbage, as you can imagine.
I have since sorted out most of the old car and the neglected car issues. It runs better than when we bought it used in 2004. I have taken the initial mileage from 24 combined to 30 combined with about 32 on the highway. We did a lot of clean up work to the engine, pulling the intake and all its many parts and cleaning the snot out of the EGR runner, which was totally plugged with hard, black carbon.
We are currently working our way through every bit of rubber, replacing it all with Genuine Honda parts. Belts and hoses, suspension bushings, everything: if it is rubber and it is under the car it goes. We will be doing the full timing belt service soon, including the water pump, a la the dealership, but here at the house.
We decided to spend the effort and time on the craptacular plastic wheel covers, which looked just horrible after the nice, new paint job. We sanded them down to the base plastic, which took forever. We also hit the rusty steelies with a wire wheel and some wet/dry sandpaper. The rims were primed and painted, and the covers were redone with Krylon Fusion for Plastics in the rattle can. This was my first experience with the Fusion stuff. I have to give it a thumbs up, but you need to follow the instructions to the letter. No primer. No adhesion promoter. Weird. Looks great and sticks really well.
The paint was damaged while it was stored for nearly four years. We have a lot of work to do, and this includes eventually repainting it. This time WE will do that. We have done one car and it came out very well. We will do this car and do a much better job than the guys at that budget place we took it to in 2012.
Here she is as of last week, at the dealership having the air bag replaced via the Takata recall. The dealership guys were so impressed with this car with it's nice looks and its 290,000+ miles and 16 years of hard use that they washed and waxed it for us for free after the air bag had been swapped out.

Just picked up my Grandpa's 2000 Accord on Sunday. I am the very proud new owner of this vehicle, and so far I love it. Only has 58,xxx original miles, all maintenance done by the local Honda dealership. I plan on keeping it bone stock for the purpose of maximum reliability and longevity.
