Married, own a house, live fairly comfortably... all depends on what you expect out of it. Certainly not a "get rich quick and easy" scheme though.

I imagine all of the engineers who aren't happy are either
A) not actually doing any engineering
B) only working on one tiny piece of a huge puzzle for years at a time
C) aren't actually good engineers

 

Actually, only problem I really have with being an engineer (mechanical in my case) is being "friends" on FB with all of the kids I grew up with who now own these dinky car shops and are trying to "develop" things.

One guy in particular is working on a bolt in AWD kit for civic/integra, and just posted a picture of his first load of parts that he just got in. Bunch of 1/8" flat plates that are supposed to hold an entire subframe together. I cringed.

 

what's the problem with that? do you feel bad that he's wasting his time, or building a deathtrap that might kill people?

i know it is hard to turn off the enginerdiness but sometimes you gotta just look away
