For .035 wire I run 212IPM at 18.8v....this girl was running like 226IPM at 19v...

Honestly this weld should be about 2/3 the size.

That lip that is being welded on is supposed to be 10mm after fitting. The A2 weld that is specified in the print is 4.5-5mm wide on the face of the weld.

We don't have tight tolerances for 'over welding'...but it's a shitty looking weld nonetheless. As long as it doesn't leak with the dye test and it's not blatantly bad during a visual inspection (I've been trained as a NDT level 2, but we aren't 'strict' so to speak) we'll pass it... A total of 3 inches was cut out of this weld due to porosity...

We can't fix every cosmetically bad weld coming through...it's shitty because ultimately I'm the one allowing this to happen. I can't keep holding up production due to making things perfect when we're already 6 weeks behind on our timeline...bleh. There's only so much I can do to 'teach' other people..the rest is on them. It's sad because this girl can weld pretty well when she's coached, but she's been at this place longer than me and I don't honestly know for how much longer that will be... she's a decent fitter though.

I finally got to hop back into the fixture and burn some wire (I mostly only GTAW due to leak testing and fixing leaks) and lo and behold...the parts were in the correct place within the correct tolerance, the welds didn't need to be fixed and looked good
All of our machines are preset based on what they are welding so everyone is on the same page. If there is a weld issue, its usually the operator

Finally got around to installing the intercooler I made for my friends EVO X. Had to modify the crash beam slightly to allow the bigger cooler to fit. Also made a new upper charge pipe.

Looks good!

I've been working on a welding table for home. Been doing it on a makeshift plywood wall bench this whole time and it sucks ***. TIG welding these kinds of things is not fun. But I did get to practice using the finger switch and its not bad!

lol I am using a old school desk with a 30x30 piece of sheet metal on top........ my chair is a 5gal race gas container....... and yes its empty. my whole setup isn't very practical but it works. I need to make me a table like the one you are putting together. That would make life so much easier.

What brand machines?

You guys force everyone to use the same settings? How does that work out?

We have parameters on the wps but people think that as long as their settings are within the parameters they're ok. What they don't realize is that it's a ratio...and both settings need to be adjusted accordingly.

Mostly Lincolns but we have Millers as well. This is Toyota's Forklift manufacturing, so they are welding the same frames day in day out so nothing should really change. They might have a small range to work in.

I'm a manufacturing engineer in the assembly group, so I don't know a ton about the details over in welding but I can find out tomorrow.

Yeah do it lol. Was about $150 in materials precut to the lengths from metals supermarket. More expensive then I wanted but still alot cheaper then a basic steel welding table.

@krew hit up a second hand store or garage sale and pick up an old desk chair for like $10

It's worth it

I have a rolling desk chair in my house that I can use. The desk that im welding on now is really low to the ground so that wouldn't work. My race gas container works perfect lol. I will eventually make me a table so I stop sitting on the floor.

Just had a customer drop off a box of aluminum bends for his intercooling tubing....come to find out, after handling the stuff, its that ebay crap. cosmetically the bends look nice, but it feels like your holding a cast piece of tubing. Anyone have experience with this stuff?

Woot woot!!

Bad news, losing the roof contract at my job.

Good news

Moving full time into tig production welding vs the leak testing tig welding that I've been doing.

Hellloooo welding booth with a cushy desk chair and all the SS to weld to my heart's content!

Only piping from that I have purchased was CX racing. The pipes welded great . I have also welded pipes for some friends of mine with no issues. Not sure on where they got the pipe from. I have seen some pipes have a clear coating ontop . just need to clean the surface up and you should be good.

Caoboy , that's whats up man. I wish I could tig weld more often than I do. I really enjoy making stuff.

Thank you kr3w...thats what i remember reading now, it has some sort of clear coat. I will hit it with the wire wheel before welding.

Just got my syncrowave 210 off the ups truck. Plan to try it out tonight. If anyone needs a Miller Spoolmate 150 for cheap, I got one for sale. I will never use it and hate to let it just sit.

Stainless? looks like hot rolled to me lol.

On point though. That requires a full seam weld?

It's a 13mm 316 plate, fitted so there is 5mm on each side of the A606 cor-ten sheet (3.2mm) Has to be fully sealed and leak tested afterwards. Using 309 wire, mig welded...

I don't run SS mig often. Just curious with how I'm doing.

Got some upcoming work . Possibly making 2 turbo manifolds . I recently bought a bandsaw and yesterday I made a jig to cut my collectors . Haven't had time to play with some of the measurements but I made one collector out of pcv . I keep getting a square shape . I'm looking for advise on how to get a rectangle shape to match the opening on a turbo flange. I used 12 degrees . And I would roll 93 degrees on all cuts . I've read somewhere that using 95 or a little higher would produce more of a rectangle shape.
