But wont the car be undrivable for a while? How long does it take for the whole process? You need to mail your ecu and also have a shop tune the car right?

Nope. The flashpro comes to your door. You take it to a tuner. He plugs it into your ECU and tunes the car.
The REFLASH requires you to send the ECU and keys.
We're in the same boat, though I'm much older: 45. I bought my SI for a fun car and that's what I'm doing. Tired of driving auto trans, wanted more driver involvement. I'm actually considering some autocross, even.
I'm 41, we're probably like grandpas on this forum, lol.
Crazy how my 09 looks just like the newer model (condition) The only part that looks better on the 9th gen is the side view mirrors lol but all the rest looks worse than the 8th (in my opinion of course)
OEM aero and some wheels would look pretty good. Maybe a suspension that improves ride quality and handling. Stock honda damping is a *little* wack, but still works.
I think Bilstein makes a PSS9 kit for this car. Tein SF's come with pillowball upper mounts...and Tein's new street based lineup is pretty dang on point. You don't have to lower it more if you don't want. But better dampers are better to drive.
I've been putting together enjoyable hondas for 15ish years. My magic formula is wheels/tires/suspension/OEM lip kit. Transforms cars like magic. I don't own any cars with stock suspension or wheels/tires.
Brake pads and SS lines with a good fluid flush also help driving feel.
Your tires are low rolling resistance, comfort based all seasons. Ecopias are for minivans and CRV's lol.
I believe wheels from 17x8 to 17x9 fit under those fenders. Even a max performance tire like Michelin pilot SS will make the car enjoyable without sacrificing comfort or noise abatement. They come in 245/40/17...which is about the same diameter as stock.
I have a civic si 2009 and my 2nd gear isnt going in after 5000 rpm and my wheels raddle alot wen im driving in the freeway even in the street it does that noise any advice to what i should do
So I drove the 2015 Si and here are my impressions vs. my 2009.
- I hate the interior, doesn't flow and feels flat and seems somehow cheaper (minus the nice audio display and backup camera)
- Car feels large
- Hate the seats, not as comfy as my 09 and looks uglier.
- The car feels.... Flat. The sound is meh and doesn't have the excitement the 09 has.
- Does not really feel faster, i'd say about the same honestly but does seem to get up to about 40mph a bit faster but after that my 09 seems to pull more at 40mph+
- Feels... loose. My 09 feels tight, the steering, the clutch pedal is soft in the 2015. The driving engagement is lacking.
Overall I am disappointed in the 2015 but it sure does LOOK better than my 09 on the outside, that is no contest.
So. I recently sold my 2009 BMW 135i M-Sport (sadly) but my interest was way too high and I was scared if something broke it would cost an arm+leg to fix. So I had to sell her.
I am looking at getting a nice commuter car, something good on gas and reliable and cheap. I do not wanna be in lots of debt. Enter the 2009 civic Si. The car dealership I work at got one in on trade. It is a 2 door (which is fine) with 100k miles. I am sure I can get it for around 9-10 grand out the door. And I will be putting 3 grand down.
I am wondering if this one looks good? Also do you think it is even worth it to build this car? I was thinking of supercharging, I would like to have around 300hp. But on the flip side cars today are so fast stock already it seems kinda pointless to build a 2009 Si only to get smoked by new stock cars.
Anyways, picture time.
My old cars (that are now sold) -
The 2009 civic I am thinking of buying -
Lol you say you want a nice commuter car but don't want to get smoked? I'm kidding around a bit there but... if you want to save money you'll get an '09 SI for under 9K easy if you're smart. Don't worry about those new boys on the block, you can get a tuner and play with what you got. Haha I'm doing what I can for my gf's 2010 civic but I prefer my Subie when it comes to smokin
And I mean going fast not the other kind of smoking (to be clear.)
