"Now, if you remove the atmosphere and remove the oxide layers, you will just have the metal. In this case, the two sheets will bond because the valence electrons of the metal will achieve minimum energy when they are delocalized over the metal lattice, almost like a covalent bond. So when two metal sheets are brought together the wavefunction of the electrons in the conduction band of the metal will spread into the other sheet which is a metallic bond. A particularly relevant quote from the wiki article is "[t]hus, metallic bonding is an extremely delocalized communal form of covalent bonding.""

Niki Lauda has distanced himself from comments suggesting Lewis Hamilton lied about his relationship with Mercedes Formula 1 teammate Nico Rosberg.
Mercedes non-executive chairman Lauda appeared on a television discussion show on Servus TV recently in which he is reported to have made accusations against Hamilton. It is claimed Lauda said of his fellow three-times F1 champion that after missing out on pole position at the European Grand Prix in Baku he went on to trash his driver room at the circuit.
It was also suggested Lauda dismissed remarks from Hamilton that his relationship with Rosberg is better than he told reporters in an interview of his own.
Mercedes has now issued a statement on Lauda's behalf that reads: "Following his appearance on a television discussion show on Servus TV recorded prior to last weekend's Austrian GP, Niki Lauda would like to set the record straight and state the following:
"Lewis Hamilton did not in any way damage a hotel room or his private driver room at the circuit during the race weekend in Baku; and Lewis Hamilton did not lie about his relationship with teammate Nico Rosberg.
"Niki regrets any misunderstanding caused by comments that have been blown wildly out of proportion compared with the casual context in which they were made."

Riddle me this
Why is it that in every other series 9/10 debris punctures result in a tyre slowly loosing air and going flat yet Pirelli's tyres seem to up and explode?
Pirelli says Vettel's tyre failure caused by debris
Maybe Pirelli needs to look at what NASCAR does on all the tracks 1 mile or greater and use an innerliner.

Pirelli says Vettel's tyre failure caused by debris
Pirelli has concluded that Sebastian Vettel's tyre failure in the Austrian Grand Prix was caused by debris.
The German crashed out of the race after his rear right tyre exploded as he was running down the main straight on lap 26 of the Red Bull Ring race.
The Ferrari driver was leading at that point, having stretched his first stint on supersoft tyres.
Despite the long run, Pirelli has dismissed suggestions that the tyre was fatigued, and said it believes the damage was caused by debris on track.
"Analysis of the tyre issue that affected Sebastian Vettel at the recent Austrian Grand Prix has been concluded and the results shared with Ferrari," said Pirelli in a statement.
"The few remaining parts of the tyre in question, together with an in-depth comparison to other tyres used in the race, reveal no signs of fatigue or structural failure in the right-rear tyre itself.
"Consequently, the issue appears to be caused by an item of debris, which led to the breakage of the tyre."

I have it set up to record all new races, but NBC always changes which one of their channels they air the race on so I still need to go in a manually make sure everything is going to record.
I used to watch NASCAR a lot but the last 15-20 years have been downhill. Combined the last few years I may have watched a little more than a whole race each year and that's mostly watching the race at Darlington because I'm already at the track.
From the Toto:
"I think Lewis is probably the only superstar in Formula One,” says Wolff. “For me he is not only the best driver at the moment but he is also a personality with profile".
Hamilton’s success has helped to turn that around and Wolff says: “In terms of having him in the car it gives the team profile. It gives the brand profile so it has a business impact.”
He adds that Mercedes is now “perceived as younger, more dynamic, sporty than it was before then. It is attracting the market with disposable income. We have increased the potential target group of customers. You can probably say that we have gone down to 30-year-olds who can start to afford to have a Mercedes.”

The 2016 Austrian Grand Prix was the first time the lead of an F1 race had changed on the final lap since Jenson Button passed Vettel for victory in Canada 2011.
