so are they just going to add the big lefty loop of the track and keep the rest the same? It doesn't sounds like the entire original circuit will be back, just the west siiiiiiiiiiiiiiiide.

That's how I see it. I actually like that better than the original. It will be a mix of high speed and slower, off camber sections.

Current circuit on top of the old one.

I can see changes being made to the northwest corner. A sharper corner being put in there to setup a braking point and another passing zone wouldn't shock me. Wood also limit speeds along the northern straight. I hope they don't because I love the flow of that section of the track.

This is what I hope we end up with (except I think they need to keep the chicane at the end of the front straight.

You know, like have Tilke throw in a random *** chicane with high curbs and ****.
I think the best thing to do with the northwest section (if they want/need to change it) is extend the straight portion leading to the curve farther north and keep most of the curves profile but make the entry into the curve sharper.

Fred got fooked by the freaky weather.

Alonso says FU McHonda

Fernando Alonso was left frustrated by what he labelled as a "primary school mistake" by his McLaren team during qualifying for the Austrian Grand Prix.

Alonso was knocked out in Q2 at the Red Bull Ring after he was sent out with used tyres for his first run in the segment - unlike his rivals, who went out with new rubber.

The Spaniard wound up a provisional 14th on the grid as a result.

The McLaren driver said he was expecting to have new tyres on when he left the pits, and admitted he did not know why he got used tyres fitted.

"I don't think we had the pace to be in Q3, but we probably did something wrong," said Alonso.

"We had a rain prediction so we tried to go out early in Q2 with new tyres, the only new ones that I had left, but for some reason my car was not fitted with the new ones, it was the Q1 tyres.

"So I did a first try just for the sake of it, and then when I put the new tyres there was a yellow flag. The biggest mistake was not to put the new tyres like everybody else did.

"When they took off the warmers, we suddenly had used tyres on, which was a surprise, but there was no turning back."

He added: "It's frustrating. We are already not too quick. We are not in a very good position, and if on top of that we make those primary school mistakes, it's frustrating."

When asked about his chances for the race, the Spaniard said: "If we put on new tyres to start the race, it will go better. "

Alonso's teammate Jenson Button was fifth-quickest in Q3 and is currently set for third on the grid due to penalties for other drivers.

Hamilton fears Ferrari tyre strategy may be better

Hamilton secured pole position with the ultrasoft compound, the same tyres he used for his best time in Q2.

Ferrari rivals Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen, however, used the more durable supersoft in Q2, meaning they will start the race with it.

Vettel starts from ninth place after a grid penalty, four places behind Raikkonen.

The mandatory tyres for the race are the supersoft and the soft, meaning Ferrari does not need to use the ultrasoft tomorrow.

Hamilton admitted starting on the ultrasoft may be tricky, as the tyre's lifespan has proved to be short around the Red Bull Ring.

"I just did what I was told," said Hamilton when asked about qualifying with ultrasofts. "I think our strategists understand that the ultrasoft was a better tyre.

"We had the supersoft available. I think they saw, I am guessing, Ferrari go out and see if we can do the time, even though there is a time delta.

"Naturally a hard tyre goes further so it doesn't seem such a bad option they have gone for. That is not a bad thing.

"I think the ultrasoft is not a good tyre for the race so it will be a struggle to get a lot of laps out of it. It will be interesting.

"I hope I have an advantage at the start from being on the softer tyre. In practice, my tyre lasted for four laps. Nico says five, so definitely will be tricky and we will do the best we can with it."
I sure hope the US only lasts 4 laps. WOuld dump the US runners back in traffic and make the race moar interesting.

Austrian GP grid: Why Rosberg starts sixth

FIA math /= real math

The FIA has confirmed that Nico Rosberg will only move down to sixth place on the grid for the Austrian Grand Prix, despite his gearbox change penalty.

The German qualified second at the Red Bull Ring and would normally have dropped to seventh place.

However, the way that the FIA makes up the grid in the wake of multiple penalties means he has only lost four places because of Sebastian Vettel's gearbox replacement.

With penalties applied in the orders that they are earned, the FIA first moves Vettel down from fourth place to ninth place.
Read Also:

Then, Rosberg is moved down from second place to seventh place.

And it is only when all the penalties are applied – which includes the yellow flag punishments for Jolyon Palmer, Felipe Nasr and Rio Haryanto – that the grid is closed up.

So with Vettel unable to take up his fourth slot, the positions behind third are closed up – moving Rosberg up from seventh to sixth.
Shout out to the New England peeps. Rt 3 and 495 part of mah daily commute for several years.
