So. I recently sold my 2009 BMW 135i M-Sport (sadly) but my interest was way too high and I was scared if something broke it would cost an arm+leg to fix. So I had to sell her.
I am looking at getting a nice commuter car, something good on gas and reliable and cheap. I do not wanna be in lots of debt. Enter the 2009 civic Si. The car dealership I work at got one in on trade. It is a 2 door (which is fine) with 100k miles. I am sure I can get it for around 9-10 grand out the door. And I will be putting 3 grand down.
I am wondering if this one looks good? Also do you think it is even worth it to build this car? I was thinking of supercharging, I would like to have around 300hp. But on the flip side cars today are so fast stock already it seems kinda pointless to build a 2009 Si only to get smoked by new stock cars.
The civic si is a good choice. It respond very well to bolt ons and still be reliable. Reaching 300 hp is relatively easy and there are tons of routes you can take to achieve it.
The civic si you have referenced looks good. Do you know why it was traded in?
Yes, it was traded in by a middle aged couple. They traded for a Nissan Titan. Assuming they wanted a truck and to ditch the small 2 door coupe. I love the look of it. Looks very clean. I do not want to do any visual mods other than maybe some darker window tint. I want to focus all work on performance. I want to escape the "ricer" image that usually comes with this generation of civic's (yellow fog lights, red H badges, fart can exhaust's, huge wings etc.)
Even today in 2016 this is still a great looking car. Looks FAR better than the new generation of civic (in my option of course)
I bought a 2008 SI FA5 (sedan) with 95K on it 11 days ago as a third/fun car (I also have a 2014.5 Camry SE and 2007 Tacoma). I'm having a lot of fun with it and it's quickly become my daily driver. Tinted windows on Saturday, have an intake and TB heat shield gasket ready to install, and I'm currently trying to decide on an exhaust (Inivida, most likely). Bottom line, I really don't think you can go wrong with these cars. They'll easily run another 100K with regular maintenance, plus, there's a ton of aftermarket support for these 8th gens (2006-2011). I even got lucky and someone already did an HID retrofit on mine. So, yeah, I'd say go for it if it's what you're looking for.
And, I agree, I don't like the current gen Civic. Seems I always go the older route as I bought my Camry when I could've waited a few months on the new 2015's; don't like them either.
But I'd rather buy a 07-08 TSX. Better looks (IMO), better suspension, similar size as a 4dr civic, has 4 doors, has great features, can be transformed with some tuning, bolt ons, suspension, and gearing/LSD. It looks more grown up and has a WAY better interior.
The Si is more sporty in the way it looks and drives, however. And the gearing/LSD is already great. The interior is hideous...and I refuse to hear anyone that says that the interior is anything better than hideous. Buy a new eyeglass prescription if you don't think its hideous. Its hideous. Honda pretty much had Macpherson struts worked out by the time the 06 Si came out. So that's not really much of an issue. I doubt you'll escape the ricer image. I felt a little juvenile driving my stock one. But it was a genuinely good car and semi-fun to drive.
My budget is 10 grand. I wanna pay this thing off FAST. A BRZ/FRS is over my budget and honestly i'd rather get a 370z for the same prize as a BRZ/FRS.
And you are going to hate me but I love the interior of the Si. I think the seats are awesome and comfy as hell.
I would actually argue the Si interior is superior to the TSX. Of course that is subjective.
Oh I like the interior. No issue for me. And I really wanted a 370Z but the wife would've had me shot. $10K was also my budget and my requirements were small, manual trans, and no turbo. The SI fits the bill perfectly.
I agree. The dealership I work at put all new brakes, new filters, new fluid etc. on it. They just have to put a brand new windshield and clean the car. It has a crack in the windshield and the car is pretty filthy now. It is not for sale just yet.
I am still trying to find the power band in this car, it's odd. The car obviously lacks torque and I can feel it for sure. I think the best RPM's to be in is constantly over 6,000. I imagine that is when "vtec kicks in yo"? Otherwise this is a quick lil car, I can't wait to slap a supercharger on there and surprise the WRX/STI/EVO boys.
