What are your plans of action for tackling the bumper rust?
I'm going to have to get my bumpers re-chromed at some stage, which won't be cheap.

If it's light surface rust you could try the old trick of using aluminum foil and water. Dip a 3" square of foil in water and rub the rusty area, keep the foil wet as you work over the surface.
For pitted areas, mold the foil into a ball, wet it and run it over the pitted areas.
This method works quite well, afterward apply a coat of wax to seal and you are done.

* some people prefer to use diet coke and aluminum foil, but water works just as well.

Aluminum foil? Not steel wool? Never heard that one, but it sounds interesting. Luckily for me my surface chrome is very good, merely the bent irons and rusty rear of the bars. If I do repair the rust, it will likely be with a rust converter, and some chassis black on the insides. POR15 would be a candidate, except perhaps for the UV exposure issue.

Plus! I rather like this look. Especially with the FRP hood, I think it looks rather purposeful. Not sure it needs roundels, but she carries off the semi-racer look well.

I agree, with the bumpers removed the "S" looks very purposeful. The yellow #57 looks a lot like mine from the front, except I don't have headlights/signal lights, only aluminum covers where they would go. It looks like the front fenders have been flared slightly to accommodate wider tires and I don't have a hardtop due to the roll cage unfortunately.

Love It! Mine has flush aluminum covers over the headlights/front signal areas, but i intend to have domed lexan covers when it hits the track again. I intend to paint mine in white (it's original color) which I think looks tremendous with red accents.
That is a beautiful example Neko!

Hope this link works, this is my S800.

Great stuff. Roadster look really neat in full race trim. I wish I had the time to build up another version... We need more pics of your details though! Neko

I think I've seen some awe inspiring footage on YouTube. Sweet! I thought I would try some bungs for the only holes left after bumper removal. Not sure they add any value, though they do take away from the rat look... Before:

After:

It might just look better if I paint the body mounting points inside the hole black. Neko

My steel tako-ashi ('octopus legs' - Japanese for 'equal length manifold pipes') had blown a few holes and needed replacing. Fabricated from stainless is a new set, and with a new gasket set, the whole system is now stainless from front to tail-pipes. Sounds great!

New gasket, bolts, and skinned knuckles.

Best to have a friend with long slender fingers as one bolt set is above the front cross-member. Neko

Manifold looks great.
Where did you get the rubber bungs for the bumper mounting holes?

I bought them locally, but a 45mm body plug, or blind grommet should be able to be purchased at most places. These are hard plastic, and not very pliable. Proper rubber would sit better, including conforming to the oval-shaped hole. Another recent photograph:

Some recent Yafuoku S goodies. USD300 of shift **** and horn button with early wide-H mark:

Horn buttons are always a bit silly on an S of course. USD200 for this:

I am not a parts collector myself, but the first set was tempting! Neko

Love the buttons Neko. I have a JAF Japanese Auto Federation grill badge I display for when the car is displayed. Neko you need to find us a source for the Honda Twin Cam Club decals, I could have one made I suppose but original would be preferred.

The AS Owners club is a grille badge like your JAF one. Spread Tools may ship HTCC decals?

Out for a drive. Summer nights on the way... Neko

Thanks, me too! While I suggested it was a 'touge' look, someone else suggested the term 'lightweight' was appropriate. With the FRP hood, RS Wat, and potentially other similar mods, I guess either term is good. Neko.

Found some 50mm rubber ones on eBay. Hopefully they are more pliable than the hard ones now installed...

Did the 50mm plugs work Neko? My 45mm plugs were a @#$% to get in and in the end they would not stay put ! I think I'll just fill the holes as part of the S800's updating for next years racing.

Hey, they've just arrived. I've not tried fitting them yet. They also sent me enough for five cars by mistake. If they work, I will send you a set for free. They are however very soft and pliable. My holes are perhaps 44mm tall and 48mm wide, so I am hoping their extra size and softness will allow me to stuff them in...

Here's hoping they fit ! And I would take you up on your offer of the grommets if you let me cover the shipping.

If they do fit I'd take a set off your hands (I'd pay for them of course).
